SCUM
Noob hoping for clarification on PvE
I have watched countless videos and Googled and then Googled some more, but I can't seem to get definitive answers to three questions:

  1. The red areas on a map are pvp, and the green areas are safe zones, but what is the significance of the uncolored areas?

  2. If the uncolored areas are pve, does that mean other players cannot kill you in pve areas?

  3. One YouTuber built his base in an uncolored area of the map -- why is his base not being raided and why are his boat and bicycle not being stolen?
I'm hoping for a somewhat tranquil existence while I climb this game's steep learning curve. I might dabble in pvp, but especially while just starting, it seems most of my time will be spent figuring out crafting, lockpicking, hunting, fishing, farming, trading, skill progression, inventory management, and something called AF. :)

I understand that "tranquil" is too much to hope for in a game that bills itself as hardcore survival, and I certainly get that I have to deal with zombies, er, puppets (although pretty sure I'm not going to be able to deal with hordes of same, and yes, I've watched Luthais). But I was hoping there was a way I could get up to speed without risking being shot every time I walk through a doorway.

If you want to learn the mechanics and features of the game, you could try out Single-Player mode.
There you don't have to care about "zones" and only have to deal with puppets. And they don't shoot at you.
For now, that is :)

Good thing is, you can set the difficulty to your liking. Start rather easy and then dial up once you got a feeling for the game.

Private PvE servers that have coloured zones such as red will be a PvP event that the server is holding at the time, outside of it will be PvE, green you have answered, any other colour circle will be an event of some sort, such as a hunting event, car race with check points and so on. As mentioned already, check out the server on discord.

pvx servers. green/grey is traders safezone. red pvp zone. Everything else is PVE, so usually can only get raided if you build in red zone.

Excellent. Thank you for your help. Sounds as if SCUM has a great community.

Just to clarify - It's very common that red color is a PvP zone (per customization) on private servers BUT it's not a fact so better ask where ever you go to play. You can choose what ever color you wish for the customized zones.
