As with other major updates, a partial wipe is very likely as there will be many changes. If there were outdated data here, it could lead to unforeseeable problems in the best case scenario.
This often makes wipes necessary, especially for main series updates. if not stated different, this would be a partial wipe, partial wipe means that all items/buildings etc. related to the game world are removed. The map is therefore reset to its origin. However, players retain their character progress (No clothing or items worn) during the partial wipe and the in-game currency "GOLD" is also retained.
Refresh my memory, one can exchange gold back into cash, right?
Yes. As soon as you have aquired a Gold Bank Card you can buy/sell it and boost your finances.
