Well. As for the Cro Team part, as far as i know Gamepires was founded by Cro Team member's and Cro Team would help out from time to time. Helping to get started etc.
DD is as far as i know publisher of Cro Team (Serious Sam series) as well. So i assume they've gone with what they know before doing their own. Pure assumption.
A publisher can certainly help in ways but it can also hurt too. We don't know their initial contracts & agreements, for all we know this was to happen. I do think Gamepires is in a better position from the involvement but obviously hope they can maintain it.
Either way, I am thankful to Devolver & CroTeam for helping SCUM along. I do kind of suspect to see Croteam again, them being as cool as they are & also from Croatia,
it's still gonna be the same development team people working on the game and Gabrijel will still be burning the popcorn
Honestly, I can’t imagine what negative Devolver Digital can do. These publishers are quite different from their "colleagues."
Hope so, just weird that they didn't tell for us news about that.
here's the Gamepires Team all (or most) of the Dev's

it say's on twitter
"SCUM
@ScumGame
SCUM is a supermax open world survival game. Developed by
@Gamepires
, co-produced by
@Croteam
and published by
@DevolverDigital"
https://twitter.com/scumgame?lang=en
I agree, but on the other hand, without outside control, developers can do what they want and drag out development for many years, such as dayz developers. I do not blame the developers of scum, everything that they did made me happy, and I wish them success.
Probably not updated yet.
"Will they abandon SCUM now, and what does that mean for the game?"
Nothing will change in that aspect, we will still continue to work on SCUM as its our baby, and strive to the best survival game out there. Regarding Croteam, they were never developers on the game, just co-producers, and they still are co-producers.
lil something for the scum history books: https://i.imgur.com/kw6TvBt.jpg
