First person melee fighting definitely feels janky
I said it before when I played for around 15 hours, and at 30 hours. Today as well, at 40+ hours I must say anything but the spear in first person feels like it passes through puppers. I'm most definitely not tripping. It needs to be fixed. I can cope with dying if I know I made a mistake or if my gameplay is not upto par, BUT, when my sledgehammer, or axe passes through zombies or somehow hits walls instead of zombie, and I die due to that. ITS INFURIATING. Sigh~ I can't rely on bows merely if I'm roaming town as when you get hit the bows just stop working, for me, or maybe I just don't know how to operate them properly, Regardless, I like melee and I want to be more melee oriented in my playthroughs. For that I request to the devs that they need to play melee only for a few hours in both first person and third and see how bad it is. It needs work.

OK, I'm done ranting. That felt good.

The melee is getting a rework. If you want to stay with a melee build try the smaller axes (even the crafted) or a bat with nails. They swing quicker with less chance of a miss. I never bother with the larger melee weapons.

Yeah, hand axes are fine, just run up to the puppet and spam the attack button, you usually stun lock them till they die. If you run out of stamina before they die, back up a few meters backward and let them come to you and repeat.

I can kill 99% of puppets 1:1 without getting a scratch that way.
Melee against multiple puppets is still a total ♥♥♥♥ show though.

Hello :),

As already mentioned by Marktkm, Melee will also receive the attention of the developers and will be revised.

At the moment I can only recommend carrying out the close combat in the third person because it is significantly easier here, especially thanks to the target acquisition aid for close combat (you can change this using "H" when you are in the fighting stance "V"). It provides a little more overview and makes it easier to use melee weapons.

I personally like the self made metal hatchet, though it has a bit of a short range.

An fight against multiple puppets is basically the worst that can happen, not because of missing melee capabiliies but you are just simply outnumbered by opponents that will not hold back leading to a fast possible end, especially if you are surrounded. Best approach is to avoid that under any costs, a group will always hold the upper hand in melee vs one single target.

Yeah if i see two or more puppets too close to each other i dont risk it and pull out the gun, even if it will attract more. Melee is just a death sentence against more then one because you usually get stunlocked and then thats it.
Even if you win you will have a bunch of tier 2 bleeding wounds which is just annoying to deal with.

dont fight melee in 1st person. its just not there yet. and set your view up from default 70 to 80 makes a world of difference. dont go much more it starts to fish eye an look weird but Im on 80 u can see wider an all of ur toon down to the floor.

the kitchen cleaver if u find one is a keeper for melee man. something short, small axe, etc. not bats katanas the exception to swords is the medievel one, shorter and faster swinging thats what I tend to find works best. for me anyways.

with them longer heavier things its like your underwater so slow swinging, and theyre so fast. sooooo dang fasssstttt.

and move around circle them an pick ur time, dont go toe-to-toe frontal with them you may win but youll be bleeding badly the way they are now jeesh.

melee's getting a rework huh?., great. if they get any better Ill just suicide every time i see a muppet comin..

A. The durability on crafted katana sucks. Somehow every time I craft a katana it has like 10-20 durability and it runs out with like 20-30 zombie kills. Most of all, the wear down just gives me anxiety so I stay away from that.

B. It's not about the weapons themselves, its maybe the camera angle in first person or some other technicality which makes it seem like your weapon passes through zombies in first person. That's the major concern for me.

C. Spears are my favourite. I like to play safe and I have had enough desync issues on multiple 70 ping servers that I just don't trust the game with close range anymore. Also, spear truly keeps zombies stun locked and doesn't have that annoying 'pass through' bug. Never had I ever had to bemoan after using a spear. It's only when I get ambitious and try using shorter weapons that the game betrays me.

Also, devs, please fix attacks through walls. It's unfair to the zombies and players alike.

sure try to avoid close quarters hand to hand combat, but after u spear, arrow or throw a axe in them, an they shake it off an come running at u 39 kph betta have something for it.

an melee takes technique, like boxing, gotta move around, block an pay attention to their next lunge or swipe. yep often ull still take a swipe but at that point u can finish it an patch or run now hop thru a window or something, theres no outrunning them an if ur injured...

its not my favorite either but its gonna happen, figure out a method an weapon works best for u. with the shorter faster swinging things I like to use its not as far away as a sword or bat, an not as close as a knife.
and if u keep clicking ur avatar will do a double left then right strike with them. thats steps them back. its not the moving in molasses swinging of katanas an bats its much much faster and ur able to strike an move back fast unlike bats n swords.
that medieval sword is best here, but rare and to buy like 3500?, but its the perfect melee wep imo, an so is the small axe and the butchers cleaver dont discount that thing, it doesnt go in a knife sheath it goes in slot one or two like a rifle or sword or axe, its equal to them it just looks small like knives, an u find those all the time (pretty much) try it

Melee is fun once you are at medium or advanced.
The better you are the faster you'll be, same goes for brawling. Just keep moving, don't stand still.
Hit, then retreat some steps, like dancing around.

I kinda feel like we should be able to stab, and cleave through multiple enemies with longer slashing weapon.
