Vehicle ownership/locking?
I was told that you're able to lock the vehicles so no one can touch them but you, which I thought was good. I even found a car in the middle of the forest and I couldn't even push it. So I figured it worked.

I found a motorcycle in the same spot as my single player, so I figured no one owned it. I was able to drive it, but was worried that since it didn't give me the "claim" option I heard of, it didn't count as me being the owner. I thought that mabye only buying them lets you claim ownership. I even took it to the mechanic and it gave me no option besides changing the wheels.
I ended up selling it to have enough money to buy a bike, which I found a bad deal, but a great deal if it meant It's my bike that can't be taken.
It had a locked option when I got it, so I figured I had to unlock it to ride, and lock it to prevent others from locking.
I experimented with it to see, but after unlocking it, it gives me no option to lock it again. Now it has the same grey lock icon the motorcycle did.

Did I screw myself over?
I tried looking it up and got no consistent answer.
Some said you should be ready to know they'll get stolen no matter what, some say once locked, you can't lose it and since I found a truck like that, I figured that was the case.
I'm wondering if it's only cars that can be locked.

if you are on a pvp server all locks can be lock pick by other players!

It's a PVE with PVP in certain areas. I encountered some doors and vehicles that didn't let me lockpick at all.

They look wooden like the ones players can build. Right outside Outposts. Likely for quick selling.

Outposts have a safe zone around them that does not allow PVP or pyp lock picking!

Your playing on a private server you need to contact that server's admins for your questions!

"Right OUTSIDE Outposts". As in, not inside the green or yellow areas on the map.

Contact the server admins there is no way for anybody not playing on your server to know how it is set up!

Thank you. I thought it was a game mechanic over server mechanic.

There are different types of locks.

There are small padlocks with a key stuck in them which you can make round, usable locks out of. You need an appropriate level of engineering, a toolbox and the right number of padlocks depending on which type of round lock you want to make. Individually the padlocks can't lock anything.

To actually lock something there are round locks in bronze, silver and gold, dial locks, and BCU locks that you can key to your BCU so only having the bcu after killing you will open them for others. If you have one and are near the vehicle hit TAB to open the inventory and drag and drop the lock over the vehicle and release. It should give you the option to lock it.

It sounds like you're on a private server that has blocked lock picking, so you should be safe once you get a lock on. This may not be the case in the PVP zones. It depends on how the admin has set the server settings. I believe the locks can be removed from cars if the door is left open, the same way they are put on, so be careful of that. On a vanilla server the locks can all be picked just about everywhere except the trader zones.

The grey lock icon on a vehicle means it has no lock. It will turn white when the lock is put on. You don't need to take them off to drive them.

Yeah. So you can lock any unlocked vehicle in the game by drag and dropping the lock on the vehicle in the inventory TAB menu. So you could've locked the bike as well and you can still lock your bicycle.
