SCUM
Dear Developers, PVE Needs
Across the entire map, there are almost identical puppets that can't attack buildings, can't enter them, and are essentially useless. This issue has been discussed for a long time, and it's unclear when we might see some innovation.

I remember playing this game back in 2019, and it felt like a true survival experience. But now, it seems that the survival aspect is missing. The game is no longer about the struggle for food and water, and with the abundance of various new ammunition and firearms, it feels like there's not much fun beyond looting. However, PvP isn't the ultimate goal of this game, is it?

I'm a player from China, and we, the players of this game, share common interests: building houses, fishing, farming, hunting. But all of these activities should be based on the foundation of "survival" rather than just hobbies. The lack of a driving sense of "crisis" is troublesome.

We enjoy shows like "Alone" and "Survivorman," and many players, including me, are looking for aspects in the game that involve "food crises," "health crises," "wilderness threats," and more, rather than just the usual "burn, kill, loot."

I haven't seen any direction in the latest content regarding the game's development in this direction. So, I'd like to ask the developers if the PVE issues in the game will receive enough attention and if there are plans in this regard.

Hello :),

Additional things that will continue to enrich the game are definitely planned and some are already in the works.

Personally:
I have to say that SCUM is less of a pure PvE and not a pure PvP, in principle I found the wording from friends the most apt: PvE with consequences (PvP in principle), PvE with consequences ultimately simply describes what you do together on the Island is, you should think first then shoot but if you hit, or you hit the "wrong guy" that has consequences in many ways.

In my opinion SCUM is exactly that, a non-linear PvE with consequences. You can decide for yourself what you want to do. Whether it's loot, eat, repeat or whether you just decide to do something else that you want.
Nothing stands in the way of traveling the world, opening a vehicle repair shop and fostering interactions with others. Be a hunter, a scout or a mix of all. The world is open and ready to explore (And also to be changed.)
Especially in the area of survival, many things can be achieved through server settings by reducing loot, increasing damage, etc., which means that different levels of challenge can be set.

Can't be as true hunter if you TOOK THE ANIMALS AWAY. Was going to replay this, maybe join a server but without animals in the open world it's just another dead-feeling game.

It's great to see you active on this forum regularly, which genuinely makes me happy. At least it makes me feel that there are people on this forum who care about this game.

I have some thoughts on the PVE aspect of the game. In fact, I believe that this game, no matter what actions players take, including PVP actions, ultimately leads to PVE. Why do I say this? Because no matter what you do in the game, the ultimate goal is survival. Whether it's raiding resources, plundering weapons and ammunition, acquiring currency, stealing cars, or gathering food, behind all of these actions, what is the ultimate purpose? Once we accumulate a wealth of resources, including money, food, weapons, vehicles, and so on, then what? For what? Apart from satisfying violent desires, what sets us apart from other games? Are we just continuing to plunder?

The purpose of war is for peace, and plundering is for survival. The purpose of challenging bosses or exploring dangerous areas is to obtain better resources, but all of this revolves around "staying alive." However, if everyone is "well-fed" and there's no worry, just like a comfortable life, then why would we need to raid and wage war? This is purely for the satisfaction of "bloody and violent desires." However, games focused on "bloody and violent desires" are already abundant, and there's no need for SCUM to follow that path, right?

Let's return to the essence of the game. If the game neglects the core of "survival," it is unlikely to last. Just like the TV shows "Couples Wilderness Survival," "Desert Island Survival," and "100 Days Wilderness Survival Challenge" demonstrate. I believe the game should return to the core of survival. It's not just about avoiding being killed and robbed, but it involves more layers of survival: food, water, nutrition, health, self-defense weapons, shelter, natural disasters, diseases, and much more. There are also uncontrollable factors.

To survive in this environment, you need to focus on survival resources, because a sip of dirty water could become a breeding ground for parasites, leading to unrelenting troubles. When you're exhausted, you might not even be able to move and could go into shock. One day without water can be fatal. While exploring, you might encounter snakes or spiders, and if you get poisoned without the proper antidote, you'll face danger. If you catch a cold, even if it's a self-limiting disease, it's not easy to recover; it takes seven days to heal. Prolonged, intense physical activity could lead to a heart attack, requiring support from teammates or emergency medications.

All these factors are at the core of a survival game, rather than just collecting enough weapons to escape from the island. The ultimate goal should be to survive on the island by overcoming the challenges, plundering, and resource gathering while being witnessed by the audience.

I hope these views receive attention, and I also hope that the future development of the game will focus more on PVE, rather than just PVP.

when i took an interest in scum the lore at the time was that i was a prisoner fighting to survive while also entertaining an audience, i`ve played scum for about 5 years and it`s never been close to that for me, kos players make playing on some servers a question of luck rather than skill, if they see me first i die before being able to defend myself, so i try to avoid those type of servers and focus mainly on pve servers, but this game does not really suit solo players like me when it comes to what to do on a pve server, and while npc`s might spice things up right now in scum all you can do with a puppet is fight them and kill them, will npc`s have other options besides fighting and killing, i`ve seen posts about pole dancing on twitter but what is going to be in scum, will it just be a pole and our character will get some new dance moves, or will we get a npc pole dancer and we can interact with that dancer, i don`t believe that will happen i always expect the worse and usually get it, it would be nice if the devs focused more on giving pve players something meaningful to do in scum, so far i`ve heard rumours but i judge this game by what is in the game not by what appears on twitter or shows up in a steam thread.
100% feel that survival has been removed from the game,
focus seems to be on PVP more the PVE,
while i dont mind getting PVP content (and looking forward to the SCAR arriving, hopefully one day) we do need more pve content to bring back survival in a game that is ent to be a survival game.
The new hunting system, fishing, farming, cooking and base building brings a little, but they need to be expanded upon and added to more then more guns.
NPC will be good when they arrive but im guessing they more going be focused on shooting
it be nice to see more "non shooting" elements added, such as more crafting benches for base deco, creating survival items like animal/fish traps, maybe wine/spirts/beer making things like that.
and more medical needs which dont get turned down so low they never happen ( havent received trench foot since a couple weeks after it was added)

when it comes to survival i wish to high light an issue that is differcult to work around, scum is a game with limited options whereas in real life your options are less limited, you find an item in real life and you can think of 3 ways to use that item in a survival situation, now i find that same item in the same survival situation and i think of 5 ways to use it, that is how real life sometimes works, you find an item in a game do they give you 3 ways to use it or 5, the ability to adapt in a survival situation is hard to put into a game like scum, but this game would be way better if this could be added to this game, maybe in the future when real life ai gets added to create an adaptive game that can change for the user, time will tell.

Hello everyone, the feedback has been forwarded to our designers.

However, since we're still in early access and there are 2 major updates to be developed, there will be quite a few changes until the full release.
As I have no power to share what we're going to be changing and what is in plan, you can always visit https://twitter.com/dedaPong for official leaks.

Regarding the hunting itself, you can always increase the number on your own server or singleplayer. Official servers have default settings but we have given the rights to private server owners to change it up to their liking. You can still get attacked by bears and wolves though. We have already forwarded expanding the hunting itself to our designers, hopefully we can create a system that can be modified more.

Hopefully you can be patient enough until the full release.

G'Day
Its good to see a dev taking an interest in these type of discussion.
We do understand this is EA game and we are looking forward to what is to come

But when passing our feedback to other devs, can i please ask that the focus is not just on hunting, (personally find the hunting system fine, tho would like to see passive hunting methods such as hunting traps and fishing traps) but can you pass on our needs for PVE content across the whole game.
we need alot,

things to finish modular build update off- base decorations, furniture both craft-able (rustic) and loot-able (modern), storage options again craft-able (rustic) and loot-able (modern), lighting for base or be able to hang lanterns (without despawning), maybe electricity and solar.

farming update needs to be finished, maybe add animal farming, finish adding the rest of the plants,/fruits, when farming was being teased, the ability to grow flowers was stated but never arrived, AND PLEASE PLEASE allow us more then 1 farm plot or the ability to adjust the amount we can have.

Cooking, Great addition to the game i really enjoy it, but still feels unfinished, more recipes are needed, simple things like salads dont exist making growing lettuce useless, fish have no recipes outside of a simple BBQ grill, we cant even cook in our modular bases except for what can be done on a grill. maybe add the ability to pickle food for long lasting food storage.
how about a kettle for tea and coffee, nobody uses a soup pot (or stock pot as we aussies call em) for boiling up a brew
recipes or methods to make wine, beer, spirits

this is a survival game so i must ask where is the camping and hiking equipment?
I cant even go for a river/coastal hike fishing different areas because we have next to no ability to cook food (apart from skewers) unless we carry a backpack full of cans to build improvised grills. there no hiking stoves, the current tent is a useless blueprint thats serves no purpose we need a physical tent that can be packed up and move to new location and place down again, camp oven or dutch oven ( as some counties call em) along with a tripod to hang them over a fire for cooking

Medical is missing so much, jump off a high cliff and instead of breaking a leg you get a small cut maybe a limp, cant even catch trench foot anymore, theres no need to boil water before drinking, weather has very little effect,

right now we play the game as if we have some invisible helmet on with a Heads Up Display which shows us the direction and gives us a permanent map showing where we are, which means we can never get lost, but the game lore states we are prisoners dumped in the environment and left to survive, why remove this and give us compass that needs to be used (not something that appears in some imaginary HUD) but actually needs to be held in hand and it shows you the direction, then add a paper map to find which will force us to actually navigate.

This is just a small sample of our needs, there are plenty of suggestions out there
I have great respect for you devs and the work that you do and the game you are producing, but 2/3 of your player base (PVE only players & those that play the game as both PVE & PVP) are feeling some what left out and often feel that most content being added is all focused on PVP only players
Modular building how about roofs that actually line up...now leave sections poking through to the sky or big gaps looking ugly as hell!

How about cars that come in more than one color each!

We have different size fish but they yield the same amount of fillets the bigger the fish the more meat hello!

Many of these are already in consideration, but now that we have the actual mechanic (feature) it's easier to add things to it. I can say that hunting is not our top priority right now, but it can be adjusted. We're still a small team and we're doing the best we can with the development time that we have.

Since I can't specify what is to come, the only thing you can do is be patient.
Thank you for the additional feedback, it has also been forwarded to our designers.

In the future we will definitely set up more PVE official servers and we will produce more settings in order for server owners to have more modification power to set the server up to their likings.
