wearing to much clothing, weapon attachments all add up, how on Gods green earth are players supposed to know or even learn that ?
My son in law was an instructor at some naval base where he taught procedures for nuclear submarines to new recruits and not one time during any dinner did that info come up and hes an expert in the field.
Wheres the guide or video from the ppl who designed this whole mechanic ?
lemme see if i can find anything official and if i cant you all need to start sending Jhin Nguyen some checks in the mail !!
lol, this is exactly what im talking about....

they have a little guide in the 0.8 update. Other than that, everything I listed is about learning from countless deaths and optimizations, as well as experience gained. You can see I give you a lot of information that I spent a lot of time getting it, no one in this forum will give you as much as I do, and it's only part of the knowledge. knowledge about radioactivity as well as nuclear power plants, guess how long you have to experience and learn to be able to live there. When you understand it, it's worth living, however few people do it

so i dug around a lil more and found this , the reason i never looked at it before is the all caps word STALKER....... i never really looked past that word cuz this isnt STALKER !!!
This is SCUM, why would i read anything about Stalker "
please edit that title to something that refers to THIS game and not another
and just say NUCLEAR POWER PLANT for Gods sake.

Yes. At first try i died. But lesson learnt and understood. Then its fine to go again with accepted risk.
2. are they worth looting ?
May be :) at least its fun.
3. how do you prepare and survive ?
I went inside without any protection. And in regular gear. I went through Krsko, bunker from south to north. I avoid powerplant area.
Best preparation is just read very carefully what ingame tips says. Its little bit confusing but its not so "terrible" how it looks like. Best preparation is plan your journey in contaminated area if you dont know area well. And hold that plan in any cost. It will help you to survive. For example you will plan "I will visit stadio and go and you will not stay in any other area just this"
You have to be fast. And you have to get out of area close to lots of water. Without any protection you have in Krsko area with good preparations and plan may be 30 minutes ? maybe 45 real time. When you try first and you are not sure then just "touch" it and go away and try survive and figure out how to.
4. How do you decontaminate AFTER and not die ?
:)
5. any tips or advice you can offer ?
here we go. We are going in zone without any gear protection
1) prepare Potassium Iodide Pills. For one journey you will be fine with small pack for 2 players if you want to extend time in to radioactive zone. But it will be harder to get rid of radiation.
2) prepare lot of water. A lot of water.
3) prepare lot of soap. But this is not so important.
4) prepare a lot of patience
5) prepare path before you go inside. Big advantage is when end of journey is close to river. River = lot of water.
6) prepare lot of patience (again)
7) prepare antibiotics (if its go too far you will get infected extremely easily)
How radiation work. More time you spent in zone more radiation parts get stuck on you. Everything then provide radiation. You will noticed how radiation slowly rise. It has 2 separated values. 1. radiation 2. Effective radiation. Second is effected by first. First is effected by environment. Second you can block by pills. Pills will give you -2.0Sv This doesnt mean first will not rise if any radioactive parts are around you. That means secondary damage is not done to your body. Second value increase hidden value in your body. If it hit some level ARS (cell breakdown) will show up. ARS is calculated from second value of radiation :) its cumulative damage And there fun starts. C3 you can get out of it but its hard. C4 is unstoppable except phoenix tears and character will die no matter how hard you will try.
Fill yourself by water before you go in zone. Each number one will reduce first value (radiation) -1.0% Drink a lot....and mark every corner you miss.
How to decontaminate. Well first cloths take of all. Jump in. Swim. Get out make fireplace. Sweet. Drink a lot. immediately when you have 50% bladder full go. You have to reduce Second value asap. Then if you planed journey well you can drop all clothes in to the river. Just get them totally wet. Then you can dry them around fireplace. Keep drinking. If you have spare potasium still use it. Simply reduce secondary effective radiation value. When secondary is grayed you are ok. If its 0.0 but red then its cumulative (0.001 is still value)
When your secondary value is gone your ARS will heal automatically even you still have radiation (in combination with pills you will be able to get this situation) Game has inner radiation and outer radiation. You have to get rid od inner radiation first (drink and ****)
After while you can get all your gear up and go, but you still have to drink a lot and keep eye on values. After some time stuff will get rid of radiation arbitrarily. Or you can use soap to decontaminate stuff to get rid of it faster. Any radioactive parts at any gear will create radiation spread. So if you forget even 1 thing in your backpack you will get radiation but very small. Which will create secondary cumulative radiation which affect cells. Keep this in mind. Any radiation = drink a lot and if you will keep it after this under 1% you will be ok :)
I need some time to let this all sink in, i need to read it at NOT 140am my time
It STILL seems to me a building needs to be in game as a POI or a craftable tent type decontamination building/shower needs to be available to the player through maybe advanced engineering or some parts found in the radiation zone.....
@Elerik since you seem to be an expert on the subject, no disrespect to Mr, Nyugen from earlier.
What changes or additions should the devs consider to this area or overall process ?
It goes w/o saying looting for depleted uranium and or graphite is nowhere near the effort at this point.
and i gotta ask AGAIN, why hasnt the devs released any thing this detailed or even a video relaying this info to the community ?
Elerik, are you apart of the dev team moonlighting on these forums ?
The damage is identical to normal ammo it just penetrates armor easier!
It doesn't seem that bad. I went in with an advanced radiation suit and gave the place a quick-ish look, maybe 45 minutes. Stood in an area outside a supermarket that sent the geiger counter all the way up. Made sure I got myself irradiated good and proper. Grabbed some food from an apartment and left the area. I made sure to stay in the suit the whole time, went downstream into a rad free area and washed the suit then removed it, and then ate the food I just found in the zone. Was fully expecting to die from doing this but nothing happened, didn't get radiation presence even.
Not sure if this is working as intended or it's just another thing that doesn't work at all in single player mode. The food surely should have caused a problem.
Btw does anyone know if items taken into the zone stored inside the radiation suit are protected from rads? If you don't take the item out of the suit, theoretically it should be protected.
Yeah, last night after reading through all the comments i gave it a look myself. This is what i concluded.
It seems, and correct me if im wrong as ive only done that 1 test. That putting my suit on well outside the rad zone it protected my car, all its contents and myself somehow.
I kept checking with a rad detector and the car nor its contents ever got any sign of radiation.
Were as b4 when i drove into the rad zone w/o a suit on every item in my car got radiation attached to it.
Once i quickly turned around that 1st time not wearing a suit all the items in the car quickly lost all signs of radiation.
So after that 1 test with 2 trips in, 1 with out a suit and 1 with the suit equipped well outside the rad zone, i cant help but think the 2nd trip with the suit on somehow prevented the car and all its contents from any exposure at all..... is that even possible ?
On that 2nd trip in with the suit on i stayed 15 minutes and nothing in the car ever got any traces of radiation.
the 1st trip in with no suit everything in the car got radiation attached to it.
How is that possible and is that how its intended to work ?
I'll test again both ways and report back those findings.
Technically all it does is degrade armour better. No benefit in PvP vs armour really, especially for sniper rifles and single shot. Waste of time sadly until that changes.
This might help
