Any tips on how to raise lockpicking skill/get good at it?
I'd say i'm apprentice at lockpicking, lockers with rusty locks i open in 1 try but the problem comes when i encounter iron, silver and higher. i can manage to open hazmat suit lockers but i need to have a ton of lockpicks and screwdrivers just in case. Sometimes it takes me 10 tries, sometimes 50 and Thievery skill is basic at that point. Any of you skilled players have any tips on how to raise the skill quicker or do you have to start of with high skill and just some general tips? Lets say my skill were to be advanced at lockpicking how much does it actually help me or do you just have to get good at it?

i'm not exactly sure, i will try that most definetly to see but after looking at the XP progress while i lockpick lockers it goes up insanely slow.

The board even used to give XP iirc. No idea if it's still.
But most Squads have a designated lockpicking guy who always starts with the highest skill.

You will get some xp if you succeed with the lockpicking board but not if you fail.

what i try to do when it comes to lock picking is move my mouse in a crescent, but when you have 4 seconds to begin with and it fails after 1 or 2 seconds it does feel like it luck based and not a skill that can be developed, i`m a 51 year old player who lacks the reflexes and fine touch of someone who is 20, so lock picking about more than an iron lock is a game of luck not skill, if only the devs could allow for this but alas a lock picking game based on skill probably doesn`t exist.

yeah it really is luck based i feel like, of coarse starting out with high lockpicking skill will help in terms of having more seconds but i feel that you just have to get lucky on that initial try. There is no way knowing where to start turning lockpick

Lock picking is one of the hardest skills to gain, it really is best to start with it advanced if you want to be good at it. You get 50 points per attempt in the open world, which means 22.2k screwdriver uses to get advanced. The practice board pays 25 points on a success, making the process very slow, especially with low skill.
Having advanced skill does make it noticeably easier to win since it widens the victory window and lets you twist on it a little more before the pick breaks.
Your best bet is lightly tapping F as you rotate the pick until it starts to turn, then trying to fine tune the position from there.
