SCUM
Finders are ruining the experience
I don't know how they do it, but there is no meaning in storing loot nowadays.

They can find chests inside large trees, under the ground, buried under bushes nor buried under trees.

Yesterday they killed my friend in the Brick factory. They were casual enemies that found our chests which were hidden in - I thought - a good place there.

I was close, so I put my backpack and quiver full of loot in a safe bush, placed a blueprint and, after some minutes hunting, they ran away, I heard a motorcycle. But they managed to see my stuff at night, in a bush... and took everything, leaving one item.

I didn't kill anyone, so I can't give names. It is sad, very disappointing.

for some players storing loot isn`t a requirement, many players could play the game and never need to store a thing, while skill and luck may help when it comes to finding loot hidden by players, server settings might also give some players an advantage one that can be hard to counter especially if a player needs that setting to play at all, personally though i would not hide loot at a poi that is just asking for trouble.

If you are playing on official and people are consistently finding things that make ya say hmmm... its probably sus to some cheats being used to see the location of all your items, blueprints, player, base, etc, etc...

I had someone dig up a chest I buried underneath a tree.. right

If you are on official no idea. But if your on a private server have an admin bury a box full of loot in an obscure location then wait in drone mode to find who's cheating.

There is definitely a cheat that some players use to find vehicles, chests, players, etc... (this will always exist in any online game...)

But I'll give you some tips from my own experience.

Cars:
The cars have an intense shine on the edges of the headlight and on the side trim of the door. (mainly LAIKA)
As we know, the game does not completely render vegetation beyond a certain distance. So cars, even "hidden" in a bush at night, become relatively clearly visible... I have a few accounts in the game, one of which I use only to commit respawning. From above when falling I have a wide view, I use this method to analyze the island, see bases etc... Eventually I locate a vehicle "hidden" in some bushes. When parachuting, I have a wide view and as the vegetation does not completely disappear within a certain distance at night, the vehicles become very eye-catching.
Note: Many players "hide" the vehicle and "hide" chests nearby. When locating a vehicle, look for thick trees and large bushes nearby, there are many chances of having a chest nearby. (this is called gaming experience)
So don't make the mistake of leaving trunks close to vehicles...

Chests:
The chests have a rendering radius of approximately 100 meters, you can do the test, take a sniper and move away from him until he disappears from your vision, aim and calculate the distance.
That said, here's the big secret... do this at night, move away from the chest, and after it disappears for you, wait a little while, when you get closer to it again it will spawn again and with that it will glow blue. This goes for loot too, note that when you pass through a city or loot spawn location you will notice that when you pass by you will see it spawning a blue glow.

Hiding places:
Many players have the habit of taking a house on the map, some POI and locking it, generally they place a chest with the best loot nearby, in a tree, bush etc... It's much more common than you might think! So when you find a house locked by a player, look at the trees and bushes or some location nearby that you think would "hide" a chest. You'll be surprised at how many players do this...

Extra tip:
There are some places that are extremely well-known by more experienced people, where players always "hide" chests on almost all servers...
Take a metal detector, go to the junkyard, in the forest ahead, start looking, depending on the movement of players on the server, this location is the easiest to find at least 10/15 "hidden" chests, other locations that are already old They are islands further away, lighthouses, close to the cement factory. and many more that I will preserve here. But what I want to say is that there are really good people in the game, not everything is cheat. Of course, I don't know the details of what happened to you, I just want to tell you that there is a world where players really are skilled...
I hope I helped my friend a little, and try not to leave chests near vehicles, old locations and places with a lot of player movement, sometimes players are just watching the movement from afar waiting for you to go to their trunk and give you its location.

That shine from the headlight edges or window edges is like a light house beacon.

The blue flash that you see is your awareness at work. Yes very easy to see it at night just like the shine from the rides.

Find fresh logs and branches on the ground but no base says a big HELLO chest in a tree.
build another chest and put the left overs in it and then destroy that chest...

Never stash loot in a cave and even more so never base in a cave-one way out and they can mine/trap/shoot you to fame death trying to get out. Once you can't shelter or sector spawn your base is theirs.

If you think that could be based on the use of a cheat....report it.

I got the same thing on 2 official servers....but until now I didn't got any proof of cheaters. At least devs told me so.

Funny thing they do stole a chest with junk inside. Only when you place valuable loot in it.
I did my testings.

What I understand is that the one that stole the chest is not the one that use the ESP cheat.
At least this is was I guess from watching them.....

I use it pretty often, bro. I don't think it is a cheat but a wrong use of the game mechanics as an exploit.

Thank for your tips. Me and my friends use to sell the valuable things found immediately and use the chests for logistics and some spare weapons/equipment.

A lot of players are using alt accounts as loot storage at least as far as back up equipment.

Not me. Scum was the last game I bought and, being almost 52, I wouldn't buy the same game twice. I am so old school that the last game I used cheat codes were Lost Vikings and "Impulse 9" in some Quake.

I'll be 60 soon and only 1 account myself.

Not so my friend! I hope you have better luck... Don't be discouraged, the game is very good! These things are part of it, unfortunately some people actually cheat.
This will never end, whether in SCUM or any other game, if you combine human beings and games in the same sentence, there will be cheating. lol

Be more careful, always think about the possibilities, and, even though there really are good players who have a vision for the game!
But whenever you see something suspicious, don't think twice, report it to the developers, they are always willing to help... Even if it's nothing, it doesn't hurt to open a ticket or report it in the official discord tab.
Just don't let this discourage you, if we keep thinking that everyone is a cheater we will lose the desire to play! Let's give a vote of confidence in humanity. lol
Jokes aside, there really are many tricks that we can honestly use in the game to do very ingenious things, experience and practice in the game count a lot.

Good luck and hugs friend, good game... :D

I thought that at 38 I was a veteran of SCUM. I see I'm far from that!
I want to be 100 years old and still playing... lol :D

Yeah I was on a PvE server back then, just started out and was re-burying a chest to adjust its position and a car full of players drove up to me in the woods. Together with how all garages were locked out there's no reason to play on servers full of cheaters.
