Question about Character Creation and Stats
Basically wanting to know; if I create a character that has 'No Skill' for a lot of the stat areas, will those areas still progress to 'Advanced' over time as I do things, or will they stop progressing at a certain point and be locked? If so, is it better to give ALL stat areas a 'Basic' skill level and start from there?

I've been starting out usually with high Running, Mele, Endurance and Engineering for my characters but wanting to start a character I'll stick with to progress & develop all facets now for something different.

(Single Player only btw).

All skills can level up from no skill!

What determines a skill cap is the stat attached to it

for basic you need 1 in the stat
medium requires 2
advanced requires 3

Those need to stay if a disease lowers you below 3 for example you will loose advanced till it goes 3 again

so a player starting with 3str 3con 3dex 3int
can take 1 advanced skill per stat and then level all the others through game play and continue to level up the advanced which I have no idea if that matters
or a mixture from the available pool

A higher int now may be more beneficial cause it helps level up the other skills easier but you can still get stat capped
ie I have medium rifles filled but can't get advanced cause strength is not yet 3.0

Hey there OP, as it was already stated, yes all of the skills can be upgraded just by playing, some of the skills will progress faster some slower, so if you are going for the all advance playstyle, I would suggest getting initial skills of those which are slower to progress to set them to at least medium or advanced.

Thanks for all your replies and help with this Q. I've decided to go back to my long-term save character which I've developed the most, the last big reset wiped all items but the developed stats are still intact thankfully, my only concern was that there was some kind of cap/lock on how far some stats could go if choosing 'No Skill' for some, but if they keep developing it makes sense to continue the most developed character rather than starting a new one.

The only cap you have is if your attributes are bellow 3, but all of them can now be leveled as well. :)

High Intelligence (3 at minimum) is recomented, so you get more xp per action.
