Currently SCUM is not supporting Linux. You can play singleplayer but you wont be able to play it on Multiplayer.
That is correct, it's because of anti-cheat not being properly set for the Linux so the multiplayer option will be disabled when playing on it.
2 refunds incoming...
Lol I have it on windows but was keen to try make it work on Linux
I do not get any error message from EasyAntiCheat and the game only acts as DeathWhisper and xKickx describe if you do not install the runtime.
However, I still cannot connect to my server, so this is only a step in the correct direction.
The game stores this info (basic appearance, not the actual inventory) locally.
That's all well and good. However, the only issue with that hypothesis is, my main linux PC can't play on any online servers and I haven;t played locally. therefore there is no locally saved character information to pull from.
So if that information is not local, and I also do not use cloud sync so it was not pulled from a online save that way either, where else could it come from if not the server.
I play Scum on a lesser spare pc running winblows until the devs allow linux player to play properly.
That stuff needs to be tested, maintained and monitored which is a commitment that they honestly could spend elsewhere
For now.
They do not need to maintain, test or monitor Proton. This is a simple fix that would enable people to play on their steam deck and linux machines with 3 simple steps.
"Programmer: it doesn't need testing"
"Programmer: I tested it on my laptop and it works"
"Dev: It works in the editor"
I love all these, they are proven wrong each and every time in QA pass
Proton is not something Gamepires works on or maintains. That's valves job. If you need to know more about Proton and how little the developers of the game need to pay attention to it, you can go to protondb.com and see how much progress they have made to make games playable on linux with little to no developer input.
Proton.db lists games and which are and aren't compatible right now. A lot of current games still aren't. There's a reason.
They've said they'd look into it after 1.0. Just have to be patient.
