Lockpick vs Advanced LockPick
Honestly I can't believe I haven't been about to find this answer anywhere :(

What's the Difference between a Regular Lockpick (Or Improvised Lockpick) and the Advanced LockPick?!?

Note: I'm not talking about Advanced Thievery... but the actual Red Advanced Lockpick you find.

Near as I can see the only difference is with the Advanced LockPick I only get 5; but with the Improvised I can Bundle 10. I realize I have to unbundle them to use them, but still... One Space holding 10 Picks versus One Space holding 5?!?

Advanced Thanx

And Just to add a Bit of Whine to this: Screwdrivers shouldn't get destroyed after one use; what are they made out of... Paper?!? :( I'd rather have one 2x1 ScrewDriver that doesn't (and shouldn't) break... than a 1x1 (with 3), but only works for 3 shots :(.

Firstly, and this goes for many things in this game (and probably others), embraces the mechanics as they are, and not how you'd think they should work. You'll experience much less frustration.
That said, better tools (screwdrivers lockpicks) take longer to break, I think they also increase the wideness of the sweetspot.
Airdrops, police station lockers, POI lockers are easy to pick even with no LP skills and the worst tools (red screwdrivers and improvised LPs). If you want into the harder locks, killboxes, uranium, phoenix tears med locker, then the LP skill and better tools combine for significantly better success rate.

hey :),

There are 2 different screwdrivers. A small red with a maximum of 3/3 uses and the large black and yellow with a maximum of 40/40 uses. So if you are looking for a screwdriver that lasts longer, look for the better ones, you can find them in many workshop locations (rarely) but also in military facilities such as bunkers.

As for the lockpick stacks, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. When it comes to stacking, charges count too. An Improvised Lockpick has 1/1 charge, the Regular Lockpicks have 4/4 uses, and the Advanced Lockpicks have 6/6 uses.

The more advanced lockpicks can withstand constant pressure for longer.

Each pick has a set time that you can hold down the F key before it breaks, that time is a combination of your skill level and the type of pick you are using.

On an iron lock, no thievery skill and an improvised pick gets you 0.45 seconds.
Advanced skill and advanced lockpick is 0.77 seconds.

Ahhh.... Got it; that's what I needed to know. I think I have a pretty good touch; I don't think I've ever broken a LockPick... though I often run out of time :(.. LoL. But Thanx Mate; that's what I needed to know!!!

I can live with that; well, assuming I can find a better ScrewDriver - LoL; but carrying around 10 Small Ones (IN CASE) I run into something locked; Sucks!!! But I'll keep an eye out for the better ones :). Good Looking Out Mate... Thanx!!!

This, or you make use of a crowbar as you can open simple lockers with a crowbar aswell, however, this will make noise and will damage the content inside.

Hang on, have they changed it? Before the lockpick would break after afew seconds if you didnt even apply any pressure and it was just a timer. So now it is more realistic and it only breaks if you apply too much pressure?

In my experience the LockPick breaks after every attempt... whether you are Successful or Not; as well as Breaking if too much pressure is applied. As such, I can only assume it will break if you do nothing other than start the timer. I haven't tested that theory... nor can I afford to test it; while I can afford the Picks... the ScrewDrivers are Precious to me :). LoL

Even if successful you will use the lockpick think of it like the repair kits it is uses not successful attempts
Hardwater Jul 30, 2023 @ 11:45am
But even if you put the lockpick in the lock, and dont move the pick, the timer still counts down, this is the reason the lockpicking system in this game is complete garbage, it should be more realistic, so when you start to move the lockpick when its in the lock, it breaks if too much pressure is applied but if you dont move it at all, then it doesnt break (because you arent applying any pressure) and no timer starts (because the timer is unrealistic).

even with a timer it is too easy once you master the minigame.

If you want to talk Realistically...

A) Who uses a ScrewDriver to Pick a Lock?
B) What ScrewDriver Breaks so Easily?
C) Why am I being Timed? Is a Cop going to show up, and throw me on some Prison Island?

To realistically pick a lock, under these circumstances, you would just use a Bobby Pin or a Paper Clip and a Thin Allen Wrench... That would be more Realistic; But... would it be as much fun (or, at least, as Challenging) as a CardBoard ScrewDrivers and Fragile Bobby Pins which only last for 5 seconds out of the box -- ROFL!!!

Lock picking in real life is too easy, watch a youtube video.

So we need an unrealistic mini game that is challenging.

The problem is no lifers master it.

Players farm picking supplies with alts.

Finding bases is too easy.

Yeah, alts are a real problem. Everyone i know have at least two character to log out with a hiking equiped and the other in hands to prevent losing valuable loot.

I always log out holding a bag, sucks cause I can't rest, but if I don't all my locks will be picked by morning and everything gone or destroyed, so I carry what I can, I buried a chest as well like 1/2 mile from my base

Yeah, but doing this with your one and only character is one thing, buying the game dozens of times to do this is insane.
