SCUM
One should still consider junkyard as the ultimate gold mine
A bit OP maybe? For anything else but weaponry and such combat stuff.
Metal piles are literally providing kazillion metal. Tire piles are now providing endless tires for any vehicle on the island. Car wrecks may give lots of stuff or nothing, which is okay i guess. But those piles that give stuff have sooo much in them. For the tall piles there are enough car parts to build one from cratch(if car frame was a lootable thing)...endless nails, smartphone batteries, leadplates, padlocks, gunpowder(why carpiles have so much gunpowder in them?). Also enforced locks are dropping too ofthen from those piles, maybe drills too...for making them grenade launchers. Oil filters are in every other pile too if they ever get balanced to 3+ shots possible.

On the other hand metal pipes are gone from the yard, which seems odd as the metal pile graphics look like they have pipes in them...

I don't think that's OP.

I've been through a lot of garages & repair shops, and noticed that vehicle parts do no longer spawn there (except alternators & batteries).
I'd assume that the devs deliberately removed vehicle part related spawns from these "old" locations and concentrated these at the junkyard.
If my assumption is correct, this would make perfect sense to me.

Vehicle parts could also spawn as lootable items from other car wrecks. There are wreck "piles" containing multiple cars in other parts of the island too. Its cool if one location has more abundant source for those, but that heavily so? Junk yard has too much in it that can be farmed easily.

I don't think it's that easy to see. For one, it's a fairly remote area. You have to get there first. It's not that easy, especially at the beginning of things and if you're lucky enough to find the right parts you have to be able to move them. So a lot of loot can be more of a hurdle here and the danger of meeting better organized players is of course an additional challenge. This makes the junkyard a lucrative, but no less dangerous target in many respects.

Its not easy to see yes. But as you said it, more organized players could own the area, and in that way it feels like a gold mine, a one kind of a place to own. Also nearby are the great sources for AP ammo stuff. It feels like the ultimate place to take hold of as the king of a server, with no match. Even a tiny match to it. No other place is PROVIDING vehicle parts.

you say "remote" but on a popular servers thats is a hot spot. its almost 100% chance every time someone is hanging around waiting to pop you..

and even more so now that base building mats you need a million to even bother getting to metal walls on a base that wont be raided in 10 mins

so i see what your saying but thats not how it plays out usually when i try to go there..

As I said, there are also other players who significantly increase the difficulty. So I'm well aware :).

Last time I was there with an allied team, we had made the necessary preparations because we expect that in principle at various places.
