You have to get used to it. Doesn't work like a rifle w/bayonet, aim a bit lower.
Do some shadow stabbing and count 1-2-stab, 1-2-stab.
Had to do the same to get the hang of it.
And yeah, should do damage between the improvised spear and a bayonet.
I have 5800 hours been using spear as a starter for a long time. I am hoping that they correct they way the spear is used in the game. Spears don't downward chop!
I know how many hours you have and you're basically right and I hope they do something about it too.
But as with every weapon, there's a secondary use, like the knive is primarily used for thrusting, slashing as a second. So, we *could* give them the freedom of the artist and say it's not slashing but more like a blunt weapon, a bat. You hit them with the shaft.
I mean, it *does* stagger them puppets and you get the time to thrust again.
