What affects fishing? I seemingly cant catch a large fish for crap and my line keeps breaking. I', even using all bought parts and rods, 0.5 line....I also cant find a good video about this for 0.8 release.

I made this vid once, not sure if its still fully up do date. But there used to be a very specific trick to get nearly any size.

Hey there OP, most of all is the skill and equipment which you will use.
Tricks like Sr. Morajsakom shared can work as well to cath heavier fishes.

I bought the best equipment. Not sure if you are talking about in game skill or my skill at doing trick. What skills help with catching heavier fish?

use the mouse wheel doing one for us two backwards repeat until the fish is caught

Try different waters, sea, rivers and lakes give me different results.
If I am fishing on the sea shore, my line always breaks if I use bollies or meat bait.
I find it easier to land fish by using grasshopper bait. Bollies I save for the rivers and lakes.
Twin hooks I found to be better than single hooks.
So try different bait and waters, you will find a combination that works for you!

You can't just reel in only, you have to reel out too. I reel in while pressing shift (reels faster) and then reel out without pressing shift (reels slower). That way the line almost never breaks.

I was referring to your skill, not in-game, sorry for not clarifying it a bit better. What I meant is reaction time.
