Any attempt at micro trans would kill this game stone dead. Hopefully the new owners aren't that stupid.
This, tho, is very sus, IMAO: Transaction terms were not disclosed
I'd like to hear someone's opinion about this. Not a single tweet from dedapong so far (14/12/2022).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ace_of_Spades_(video_game)
I quote: "the game was acquired by Jagex in 2012 and fully released in December that year. Following poor reception and several minor downloadable content package releases, the game was shut down in March 2019."
Of course SCUM is not AoS but still I am entitled to feel cold shivers down my spine.
I had a dream, make SCUM like a big MMORPG - survival looter shooter crafter with clans & missions/quest, NPC ... a son of EFT and RUST.
But for now is just a mess about dev seriously a bug mess.
Thanks to Discord Bot and the goods Admins of some servers to bring more fun end game with new servers configs.
Anyway, i begin Escape From Tarkov i need more challenge i finish SCUM and it was fun - except bugs and bad coding behaviors.
See you maybe in a couple of years in SCUM ... maybe
With more powerful servers a lot of restrictions in Scum could also fall.
I am quiet sure it will be a benefit, Tomislav and the Gamespire team do love the game too much to throw it down the bin.
Even thou the Jagex CEO is pretty quick at talking about profitability in the same sentence after the general words of welcome aboard.
But synergy effects using the existing infrastructure of Jagex should lower the cost for Scum and DLCs should be enough to make revenue, many games have shown that this can be highly profitable.
But yes its not without risk, should Jagex or the owner of Jagex need money they could pressure to maximize revenue, a cash shop is not the worst that could happen. Often even succesful games with long term profit get their budget cut to the minimum to keep the server running and milk the existing product dry if the owner of the owner of the owner wants to by a new sports car so to say.
But so far when the Scum devs get serious and finish something it always turned out to be the best one has seen so far. So it will be with this deal or the Scum community would probably burn down the Jagex headquarter, its not the runescape community, these guys didnt know how to survive on Scum island. Ohhh wait ... TEC1, JageX
I wouldn't be surprised if they take inspiration from Fortnite and COD at this point.
In 2021, global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) acquired Jagex to support the company’s growth strategy, including M&A. Michael Wand, Managing Director and Co-Head of the Carlyle Europe Technology Partners advisory team, said: "We’re pleased to support Jagex with the acquisition of another very talented development team. This further diversifies Jagex’s portfolio of quality development studios creating unique community-focused gaming experiences."
::::::
So an investment firm bought Jagex in 2021 and now Jagex acquired Gamepires in 2022!
It isn't necessarily a bad move. I think it'll help the game in many ways. And even if there'd be microtransactions at some point, I wouldn't be bothered. I'm not into pvp, so screw it. I don't need ptw, there's nothing to win for me.
