Lockpicking Is Ridiculous
Seriously the progression for lockpicking is awful. You can pick the basic locks in police stations and bunker armors fairly easy even with no theivery skill with any screwdriver/lockpick, but you go up a SINGLE level to the silver lock and the lockers you can get hazmat suits and stuff from (supposedly) and you get like 3 seconds to pick it in the BEST case scenario, which is stupidly low compared to the 10 you get with the previous lock level.

As I said that is the best case scenario, I've basically never gotten all 3 seconds on that second level of lock because apparently the lockpicks are made of paper mache. After having this difficulty I went on single player with a character that had Advanced thievery and it made ZERO difference besides more time to pick the lock that I'll never get to use anyway because the lockpicks break after 2 or 3 turning attempts.

I even spawned in lockpicks and screwdrivers and did a couple hundred attempts to get into a locker, absolutely nothing.

Something needs to be done with it, the level 1 lock is like a 2/10 difficulty and the level 2 lock is like 11/10 difficulty, basically impossible, there is no reasonable scaling there at all.

A good keyboard is key. On my laptop, it's very difficult, with little space for my keys to decompress before it's all the way down. On a good keyboard, where you can lightly press F, not going all the way down, the lock picks last much longer. I watched some guys pick gold locks with bobby pins.
I do agree the difficulty in levels from basic to silver is a huge jump. Just thought I'd share the keyboard experience.

That's why you always have a crowbar with you...

You can't use a crowbar on a level 2 lock. You HAVE to lockpick to get a hazmat suit.

I'm aware of the keyboard thing, a game shouldn't require certain hardware to have any chance at success though, it is just awful design if the solution is "Oh get a good keyboard."

Surely a press of a key is a press of a key, whether hard or soft.
I do also have a good mechanical keyboard

Oh right yes, however, it is useful to have a crowbar with you.

I once tried one of those new wall lockers that contain medikits with medium lockpicking skill. After having only a two or three seconds timer which is impossible I gave up and didn´t try again. It´s just bad gamedesign just liek the rest of the lockpicking system. It´s nonsensical and immersion breaking that screwdrivers and lockpicks break that frequently. Try to destroy a screwdriver in reality without driving a tank over it..good luck..

The second thing should be removed. Cuz why is it time gated, doesn't make any sense.
It should be like in skyrim and fallout. You press to hard to long and the lockpick breaks.

It's hard (definitely not impossible) but it needs to be. If Iron, Silver, and Gold locks were pickable by just anyone, there would be zero security for your base or locked vehicles. Lockpicking needs to be a very difficult task.

Here's an excellent vid showing how to learn lockpicking.

One thing I'd like to see added is the ability to give ourselves more time on the practice board, just like you can with wirecutting.

I think golden locks should be even more difficult.... you should need the best tools to open them + a high skill!
So, no red screwdrivers and no hairpins, this would make it harder to get raided and the better tools would be more valuable.... but this is just my opinion.

They could do this, but since they use the lock picking as a gatekeeper for things like raiding they would probably balance the change by making the lock picks so sensitive to breaking that you'd need to be in the perfect spot on basically the first try.

I agree with the OP. It seems lockpicking in SCUM is a victim of PVP multiplayer game design. It needs to be impossibly difficult to provide difficulty to the best players and there are no "difficulty settings" in PVP multiplayer games so it can't be adjusted to be doable by mere mortals :-(

I olso agrees with tha OP! 👍

Here is the thing, if the lock I need to pick was a gold lock, then I would honestly be less annoyed about it. But the fact is like I said, going from the basic lock to the next level up at silver gets like 100x more difficult. I don't really bother with PvP so I've never picked a gold lock before and have no idea how hard it is, but going from 10 seconds and your lockpick basically never breaking to 3 seconds and lockpicks break after 2-3 attempts is beyond stupid scaling wise.
