If this were the case, and I haven't seen anything indicating this, then the only difference now is replacing the wardrobes with chests.... You can still do the same thing, causing the same issue you mentioned. So I don't think that is the reason.
IF this was intentional, then its a QOL issue for players. Which I don't understand.
Large bases with a lot of wardrobes or storage shelves were creating rendering issues for other players!

Hey guys, we are working on same changes here. You can now put shelters and quite a few more blueprints in POI's. We might add wardrobes there as well soon.
Can't build cabinet inside buildings!
Is it a bug or is this mend to be, I don't like it.

It is intended.
Those issues are for public servers, I'm sure.
For private servers, who are not experiencing such problems, this should not be an issue.
In fact, in private servers, we should be able to have the option to put anything, anywhere, at anytime, as we are paying for it. And if it's not effecting anything, that's our choice.
So, and really no disrespect intended here, but I don't care about official servers. Any question I pose here, are for people that pay to play on their own servers, so we should have a choice as we do so many other things. Just like the flag, which we can have as many as we want for each squad - which we are glad they reverted it back for us.
I pay for a 64 slot server
::::::::
Private servers were given the ability to have more than 1 flag
They were given the ability to have more elements per flag
They are developing the game according to official servers not private!
They don't receive 1 penny from private server operations.
::::::::::
People rarely close to never in their reports say if it is single or multiplayer, official or private, so atm there is 1 path to development!
:::::::::::
At no point did I say I disagree with you I merely posted what THEY HAVE SAID!
Which you could have found yourself if you would have done a search in the upper right hand corner!
::::::::::
In Cheesekings post he said "We might add wardrobes there as well soon."
And I, politely I might add, responded to you.
If what you said is in fact the case, it's the dumbest reason in the entire effing world because the wardrobes can be replaced with metal chests, which have the same storage room, and can hold the same items. So removing the ability to place that particular object in a pre fab house is completely asinine and makes zero sense - IF it were related to an object storage reason as you say.
Jesus effing Christ, some people.
VERY strange decision to remove ability to build wardrobes and beds in buildings

Some changes will be made, but you won't be able to build wardrobes, storage shelves, and other BB elements inside houses anymore
+++++++++++++++
I went to general discussions typed wardrobes and then hit search here is your answer from a ********DEV********* Brada cause I guess showing you CheeseKing was insufficient!
Metal chests are 10 4 squares wide 37.5 deep Wardrobes are 10 4 squares wide 48 deep they hold 100 more items than metal chests do! If those items are 4x4 little squares! So a piece of metal, a water bottle a pistol mag...
They are developing the game for the official server 64 slot players base not for private servers. There are too many different ways to configure privates so they need 1 standard to go from. They give private servers options!

Cheeseking said they might come back Brada said they won't!
Also i think destroying furniture in pre-fab houses is still planned somewhere down the to-do list.
On official servers it will likely have the same limitations as base building (flag/claim house, part limit, and no build zones). On private servers we should be able to disable these restrictions the same way we can disable base building restrictions, for example to be able to build bases in POIs.
A few wardrobes in a pre fab house is not worse for performance than a few wardrobes in a player base.
I think the current limitations like the wardrobes is an effect of sorting build objects into categories and then enable/disable or set part limits to the whole category instead of single items to certain build zones, houses, bases, base level, skill level and so on. Its wip.
:::::::::::
But with no need to place a flag down and take up a certain area when you can just lock a few doors. Means that every building could have wardrobes and that will reduce players ability to render as they come near cities towns.
::::::::::
We had 1 player that had 1 large cabin and 2 medium cabins in his base. He was solo:::
He had over 60 wardrobes filled with every in game item possible and every body suffered driving by his place just northeast of the brick factory!
::::
i believe they did this because of the huge latency hits that coming into towns with lots of storage caused. I have seen cars end up rendered inside houses. Some with half sticking out the wall of houses and the other half inside.
Perhaps they're thinking was along the line of why do you need to store all of this when you can take what you do not want sell it and buy what you do want!
:::::::::
IMO if they can limit how many wall racks and weapon racks a cabin can have or a base then they also can limit how many wardrobes/storage shelves can be around also!
Just a thought!
Chests hold less = same players will use more chests in same locations a lot of the time.
Seems like a fail to me unless wardrobes are far worse than chests for lag etc?
Problem solved!
Wardrobes hit the performance a lot harder than chests themselves, they also have collision and so on. We're probably going to enable this option after everything else is optimized.
