Yes, such a basis can definitely mean a lot of work, especially if you are alone. Piece by piece, these are then created over time. A vehicle can help with the procurement of materials, for example.
The number in the small window does not mean that you need that many toolboxes but how many parts of a toolbox. So if you see 15x there, that means that an Improvised Toolbox will use up 15 out of 30 parts. Depending on the level of building ability, it will be less after placing it, so with Advanced, for example, I only need 7 parts. So it's about the charges of the object and not about the number. :)
In case you need few of them...
You just to collect nails, like 10 or more.
Craft 2 improvised backpacks (those that require 2 skin x bp) from puppets.
Go in a town with a lot of cars, fill those bp with metal scraps and bolts.
Go to a wood near base.
Craft a stone axe (from the wilderness). Cut a tree. Make planks from logs.
Craft a wooden club.
Now craft all the toolboxes you need. 1 nail + 1 bolt + 2 metal scrap = 30 charges toolbox
Oh yea bud. You'll spend every bit of 4-5 hrs building it, just to have someone raid it in less than 15 mins. Not worth building in Scum at all. I would say just to hide your loot like a nomad and bury chests, but im sure the devs have broken that as well.
I have been playing solo since 0.6 and I've done the nomad life as well as kept bases and I have never been raided; on high pop PvP servers. Not being raided is all about choosing an out-of-the-way location.
Burying chests works fine.
Wipes are not part of everyday life but are mostly linked to major updates. They are therefore rather to be regarded as rare.
They might be rare but a solo/singleplayer who would spend hours (like OP said) building a base would definitely not appreciate the wipe, and newer players might be completely turned off by the risk.
Wipes are part of it, especially with major updates, to ensure that everything works as it should. They are therefore an important component in order to be able to guarantee the progress of development in a stable manner. In addition, there are now the partial wipes, which means you lose the base, but keep the character, which is worth a lot. :)
If you're paying attention to the wipe cycle, you know where things are at in terms of development. Up to a month before wipe, it's still fun to perfect your base and stash stuff.
Now, with the banking system, the month before wipe will be used for converting everything possible into gold which you will retain after the wipe.
its just not necessary, there a grip of issues with this game, ive noticed people saying the pvp is ruining hard core survival which is probably true, tarkov figured a solution for that but tarkov isnt really a survival its the pvp without the survival part. spending 100 hours building bases and collecting loot to loose it all becomes pointless in all these games ive mentioned above. its probably gonna take 20 years or so before survival games come around to a reasonable game style that involves investment, grind, leveling up, open world non linear storylines, quality base building, real protection of your loot, but isnt over the top and you can still fight players but not loose 100 hours worth of stuff cause someone can tnt your base, lock pick it, blow it up with rockets, nock it down with hammers. PVE is boring as ♥♥♥♥, PVP is insanely overpowered as one or two groups tend to water fall into everyones things and become king of nothing because everyone dies and leave servers. currently survival games are a massive waist of time, that needs to be fixed.
game needs mods and good ones
players need more ability to decide how the game will be played
less grind, less walking for hours, less looting 100s of empty containers, loosing 100 hours of base/loot/vehicles.
pvp game style needs to be better developed
hi! like you i started out not too long ago, just about before the 0.8 update where i lost everything i had. if i may give my honest opinion and my advice. you can start with solo play, learn all your basics from there and figure out what works for you, like where the best place for you to loot, best hunting grounds and most resources. improvised back packs are good for a start to carry your essentials.
jackets, shirts, pants and even boots can have slots for your items. making a starter shelter nearby is great so you can deposit loot faster near your looting grounds. burying chest works, like others may have suggested. this will make your backpack space seem more, as you don't have to carry everything with you all the time.
building a base solo is not pointless, it's just much more difficult than if you were in a squad. it will get easier the more you play tho. :)
one 4x4 house with workbench, 4 chest, wardrobe, 1 storage locker, a well, a 5x maxlenght walls defence fence lvl2, 6 goldlock (3 on exterior wall door, 3 on house door)...
Logged yesterday and saw a team broke in during the night, stole everything except scrap and destroyed the well...
Never gonna build a base as soloplayer again, too much time investment vs reward.
DON'T, IT'S NOT WORTH RIGHT NOW !
Keep burying crates and take printscreens, hide your vehicles in high bushes out of high pathing ways, I did that on an open pvp-server and NEVER lost a thing.
People telling you it's totally doable and worth if you 1) find the "right spot" (there isn't, any door will eventually be picked, every wall C4'd) and 2) build a strong enough defense (as solo you need 100h+ for your small base to be), thoses people ARE squad players hoping for more unknowing players to play as their next easy raiding-prey.
viable base = squad
solobase in pvp = You'll lose it all, it's just a time question, accept it or forget it
solo functional looting = bury and mark a X on your screeshots (pirate life baby !)
