Shotguns sometimes dont shoot?
Sometimes when I use any shotgun, the gun wont shoot. It does the animation of shooting but no shot comes out. Weapon condition doesnt seem to affect it either.

If you interrupt the animation of cooking the gun you will not be able to shoot from it but will need to recook the gun. Once that is done you will be able to shoot.

Is that just by reloading or is there a specific key to press?

After firing the weapon you will automatically trigger the chambering animation, there is no specific key, if the animation is interrupted you can initiate the animation again by pressing the fire key.

Ok thanks for the help.

You have to dry-fire the shotgun several times, before it will finally reload. This assumes you aren't being clubbed by a puppet while trying to do so- getting hit while attempting to get the gun to jack in another shell with this process, will cause it to keep failing and will just get you killed. It's best to either switch out to a different weapon if your shotgun jams like that, or just don't use it in any situation where you're likely to end up in melee-range of one or more puppets. In my opinion, the way the devs have programmed this shotgun-shell-jacking process is deeply flawed and makes the pump shotguns practically useless in any real risky combat scenarios. It's sad, really. Maybe they'll bless our poor souls with a semi-automatic shotgun, someday. If not, it should be one of the very first things the modders add to the game, once modding is enabled after the 1.0 release.

Absolutely, it really sucks hard.

Does this olso happen with the over and under shotgun? There it's no pump action but have to reload after 2 shots. I personally have not yet had happen to any..yet!

Yeah the Mule shotty is the one that always fires regardless of situation.

I had this weapon bug out on me as well when I was hit by puppets, so I wouldn´t rely 100% on it.

I really dislike this function. In real life, you would be aware that you didn't finish "the animation" as in recocking the gun. But this is a game, we are not character on the screen and are not aware that the gun isn't ready to shoot. There needs to be something to bridge the gap. I've heard from countless players that they just refuse to use these guns until the devs "fix it", but the devs say its not broken. I feel this is disconnect and as a game that takes on community feedback this is something that should be reworked.

In real life, you do not pull the trigger to pump the shotgun, so it makes no sense to have the animation tied to the same key as the trigger in the game. There are more than enough keys on a keyboard for it to be something else.

This came up on Summit1g's stream, he kept trying to use a bolt action rifle and was unaware that the gun wasn't ready to shoot and when he fired it, he though the gun was firing but it was bugged and there was no gun shot sound. It's just a confusing feature and leaves players in the dark to whats even happening.

Ha, I wrote the same thing about the lever-action shotgun too few months ago. Sadly the dev didn't actually help much.

So Either you find somewhere safe and shoot from indoor to keep your distant, or just NOT use any weapons that are: Lever-action, bolt-action and pump action. Yeah I know how you feel, you just wanna feel good using shotgun to mow down puppets right?

It's one of those eternal bugs that was somehow made a "feature". Happens often on this game.

Odd, i haven't seen a single post in this thread (or in any of the MANY similar threads about these crappy shotgun behaviors in the past years) where somebody says "I love this feature, it's so realistic and really makes the game so much more enjoyable". Maybe there's a reason for that, Devs? This 'feature' isn't even 'controversial', as that would imply there is a large amount of the playerbase that likes it, and doesn't want it changed for the better. I feel pretty safe in claiming that few if any SCUM players enjoy the constant pumping/levering/bolting failures of these weapons and the exceedingly lame system currently required to recover from them. It just needs fixed, full stop.
