Wolfswagen
So I finally broke down and bought this. I started over a few times just learning the game mechs. I managed to get some progress made and then, lol and behold, I found a freaking car, yeehaw!
But it won't move an inch. Gotta gas, health is a hundred percent. I can push it but it will not drive. Do I need more than basic driving skill for it to move? If so, how do I level driving skill up if it won't even move?

Does it have power? A car will need both gas and enough power to get it moving. You can find batteries and charge the car with them. Be aware you will need a good amount charged to get the car to turn over if your driving skill is on the low end. A vehicle will also lose power over time, so dont charge the car until you are sure you will have enough.

Look under the hood. Does it have an engine?
Also it needs to have a driver seat and at least 3 wheels.

Cars without engine are to get spare parts or push them to an outpost to get an engine installes but its expensive and you need to be close to an outpost.

yep gots all that, cant see anything missing in the engine and it's got gas and the health bar say full.I'ma look and see if I see a battery missing but I don't see anywhere for one to go into or come out of. I can out stuff in the inventory, it even lets me switch seats with f1 and f2. Isn't there some way to tell what's wrong with it?

Then its likely like Bones said.

When you open the inventory screen to check on the car - Right from to the orange bar showing the fuel there is a blue bar showing the battery, if its completly grey it is out of power. You need to charge it or you can try to start it while it rolls down a hill with enough speed.

It should be able to drive even without a battery and an alternator as long as you get the engine started up.

Battery fits front LHS of car, you can see the connection leads even when it is not fitted, alternator is front of motor at bottom when viewed from RHS. I never see a belt on mine but it works. Hopes that helps you spot if things are there.

Did a quick check, if the battery is missing then the bar next to the orange bar showing the fuel will be missing completly instead of just beeing grey.

Got a battery and a jack. off the jack I get an install battery choice but it does nothing on the jack I get no option to install battery. I can see the blue where the battery goes but for the life of me I can't get it to install

To install parts you need a car repair kit. Place it in your inventory or close to the car front on the ground. Then hold the battery in your hands and try to find the right spot on the lower right of the engine. Its a bit tricky, hold f and see if the option shows up. You dont need a car jack to install a battery.

Btw did another check, i thought it is ingame but it seems starting a rolling car is not implemented yet.

Thanks I have the car repair kit as well so i will be screwing around trying to figure it out. This is one of my complaints about this game is that theyve gone a little over board on the whole "just like real life" motto. I know how to change a battery, tire, fan belt, alternator and most anything I can lift under the hood but it's taking an hour just to figure out how to do it in this game. it's harder to change a battery in the game than in real life. If I have the tools in my inv then it should just work. What'll they go next, make you spin your mouse wheel to spin the wrench LOL

BTW I get the drop down menu that says install battery at the bottom under the box that says service. It lights up and I click it but nothing happens

Can only reproduce that, if the car_repair_kit does not have a least 2 charges left.
It shows the option but doesn do anything, you likely need a car_repair_kit with more charges.

ok So I picked up a car kit with no charges. how do I "recharge" or do I just need to find another one? I think I might spawn one to see if that does it. surely a spawned one would have charges, right?
Linea Dec 10, 2022 @ 4:22pm
Yes spawned ones come with 20/20 charges the number in the lower left corner of the item. You need 2 charges to attach or remove a car part.

#spawnitem car_repair_kit

you can also spawn cars in singleplayer
#spawnvehicle bpc_wolfswagen
#spawnitem car_battery

To test if your car might be bugged.
