We used nitrado in the past and had issues, switched to Gportal and have not had any issues-other owners could probably say the opposite!
Unless you have money to burn---Don't come out the gate with a 80 player server. You are an unknown and it will take time to build a player base! Start small at 20 maybe 40 and if it gets to 75% then go bigger or you will be just throwing your money away!
Low loot servers have their place but they are rare because players just want to run and gun! Go to battle metrics scum and look at the top servers and see what they offer. Although some of those servers are up there also because they have been around for a long time!
Very True! Also ping to the server! The farther away the more hops it takes!
I have very good connection speed and mid range pc. Now I play on the server with population below 30 ppl and there is no issues at all. I would say everything above 40 is just painful.
The other thing is, it's really hard to get people on your server, unless you have friends who would populate it for first month to make it feel more alive and enticing for other players.
Also it would be good if server was somehow unique, with zones, loot, custom economy etc.
I am currently 80hrs into this game and not slowing down at all. I am close to giving a detailed posting for peeps and Devs (many Thumbs Ups and some small issues). I have been a server Admin since early ARK then moved to Conan Exlies in 2017 when it first released. I am very experienced.
1) PingPerfect :: Extreme Performance. (yes it does make a difference). I chose New York this time but previously it was Phoenix or Denver. I have seen zero stability issues from this server. PingPerfect's Configuration UI is very nice.
To minimize cost I set it to 10 slot and can expand if necessary. This is a low pop game so 10 players would be awesome but unlikely unless serious Role Players gather....which is eventually the hope. This game is 100% perfect for Immersion RPers.
2) UE4/5 is about 70 players max. It is due to their very aggressive but very smooth network code that is built into EPIC's engine. They have a custom SDK for Fortnite for the MMO style but they still instance on 64 I think.
3) Set it to 10 and go from there.
4) After a lot of single player and then online the best 'feeling' of a great survival experience and enough loot to keep it interesting. The settings below give an excellent feeling. The SCUM Spawners are very well done and have great probabilities but the spawns are set too light (in my opinion) so looting becomes a drag and the world is fairly empty. With the settings below you never know if a village will be a brutal battle where tactical retreat is necessary or simply nice and quiet. We Role Play that these are roaming hordes of Zombies using their heightened smell and hearing to roam.
Most of the defaults set by the Devs are very good. Only some minor adjustments as shown below.
Max Zombies :: 500
Mechs :: 50/50 on turning them off. They add danger but keep them low. The Zombies already add a lot of brutality with the settings below
ExteriorPawnAmountModifier: 3.0
InteriorPawnAmountModifier: 5.0
WildPawnAmountModifier: 2.0
Exterior Spawner Group Cooldown Time: 3600.0
Interior Spawner Group Cooldown Time: 3600.0
Allow Squadmate Respawn :: Unticked/Off (this add danger to adventuring)
Spawner Probability Multiplier: 3.0 (controls loot...this is about perfect)
Examine Spawner Probability Multiplier: 3.0
Examine Spawner Expiration Time Multiplier: 0.5
Time Between Events Min: 240
Time Between Events Max: 360
Cargo Drop Fall Delay: 60
Cargo Drop Fall Duration: 60
Cargo Drop Self Destruct Time: 1200
Time Of Day Speed: 4.0 (is 3.84 for default....should be 4.0)
Disable Suicide Puppet Spawning: Unticked/Off (These add the need for proper scouting and listening to their laughing. This adds a lot of immersion because you are listening to everything and not rushing)
Enjoy!
