When you create a new character set your attributes as follows:
3 strength (for medium archery and medium rifles), 2.5 Constitution (medium endurance and dump the rest in running) 3 dexterity in whatever you want I normally go stealth, 3.5 intelligence (basic survival and adv engineering).
As soon as you spawn shred your undies and socks and make rope to make a bag, a bow, and a hatchet and some arrows. You can also make rope with small sticks. Archery is OP against puppets and unarmored players, if puppets get too close press middle mouse to punch them stunning them for a few seconds, just long enough to get a bow shot off.
With that build you can craft all the ammo when you find a gun, craft metal armor, craft bags once you skin zombies, use all the bows proficiently, and can build a base with less materials that can also be upgraded to the highest tier. And basic survival gives you a simple compass UI that points north.
In towns search for string (the green spools), and kill zombies for their skin and bones. Bones can be turned into bone needles to use with thread to craft a make shift sewing kit, which is used in a majority of crafting for bags and quivers. Remember feathers, nails and bolts all stack, but you have to stack them manually for some reason.
That build right there allows you to survive off the land before heading into towns and bunkers for supplies. My character on official servers uses the same build and its very useful. Also head to rivers for water and fill up empty bottles of booze.
Also the first thing you should do is to craft some basic gear.
- search rock pile for rocks
- move around the same rock pile until you can search it again
- repeat until I have 4 small rocks
- craft stone knife
- craft small axe head
- put the axe head in my pants and take the knife in my hands
- go to a spot where there are 2 bushes next to each other
- chop both bushes
- craft rope
- craft small axe
- take axe in hand
- go to nearest tree and chop it down
- find the branch bundle on the ground and chop it into long sticks
- cut all the long sticks (except one) into small sticks
- craft 2 ropes
- chop socks, underwear into rags
- craft & equip improvised courier bag
- craft 20# bow
- craft remaining small sticks into arrows
- find another tree and repeat, breaking long sticks into small sticks. Craft all of these into arrows.
- stow all the arrows in your courier bag.
Follow this procedure and you'll be ready to go in less than 5 minutes. After that, take it slow and keep your head on a swivel. Head to a town and start looking for loot.
Whilst reading this, I thought you were spying on me! lol
Only thing I do differently, I hold on to my clothes.
I craft the bag and quiver with puppet clothes.
With the DLC you actually get more clothes so I usually cut the willy warmer and t-shirt actually. I don't usually bother with the quiver until I can craft the 2nd tier one.
I just love the extra space, lol
This is what I do I use puppet clothes and the human skin to make my first items and save my clean clothes for possible bandages.
I also go advanced med and craft a imp axe chop trees down make planks and make chests to get basic engineering I just put the planks in and then delete the blueprint
One more thing, stay out of the Z sectors, no water, harsh environment.
