shotguns + 9mm/45 acp pistol
this is found almost everywhere

OR...a bow with wooden arrows/bolts works just fine...but you need a backup since this is only single-shot...

If you want to save ammo a bow is the best choice. It is a silent weapon, won't bring all puppets to you and even a weakest crafted bow with the simplest arrows made from small sticks can 2-shot kill all unarmored puppets aiming for the torso or 1 aiming for the head. You'll need 4-5 arrows for the armored ones or 2 arrows in the head.

@Dies Fourth "icq"?

@OP Compound bow/archery is the way to go in bunkers and in general. If you buy carbon board head arrows from the armory and shoot the armored puppets in the legs it only takes two shots. Firearms are loud attracting both puppets and players. Since you can retrieve the arrows ammo isn't really an issue. Archery also is viable early to late game so it's well worth investing in again, IMO.

My choice is BlackHawk crossbow and a sword of some sort, Katana or Fooster's preferrably, but a crafted sword is fine. Assuming you aren't on a max-puppet server where you get mobbed every encounter. Plus, i always carry a silenced Block or 9mm weapon in holster or pack.

in close quarters
Military/Police usually refer to it as "CQB" (close quarters battle) or "CQC" (close quarters combat) just FYI.

Ive killed so many puppets with bows. I dont even use the compound or crossbow. I like the crafted and wooden bows. If a puppet gets too close just press middle mouse while using the bow to punch the puppet. Itll stun them long enough to get them with another arrow

since when melee is not an option?.. cheap and reliable

Exactly. Ammo is made from stick and you can reuse it also no point in giving away your position with the weapon report so more puppets and players can investigate.

Another reason to lean heavily on bows: with crafted wooden arrows being so easy to make, and so effective, I tend to be very lazy about recovering them. Every time you process the tree branches to make 36 arrows (for your mil. quiver) you are grinding Awareness exp.

as others have stated use a bow, if you can get your hands on a compound and some carbon broadheads from the shop they will 1 shot all puppets except the armoured ones and will 2 shot the armoured if you get 1 headshot or 3 shot to the body.

Don't waste bullets in bunkers unless you come across another player, waste of ammo and gun durability which is expensive to clean.

If you absolutely want to use guns in a bunker use something like the mp5, aim for the head of puppets on single fire, and aim for the FACE of armoured, not the head but the face. If you hit the helmet you will take like 4 rounds to the head with 9mm but if you can hit the face it'll take 2.

Do not burst fire or auto with weapons at the moment vs puppets as for some reason the stagger animation will negate the second round that hits them (example 2 round burst of the mp5 SD will take 8 rounds vs armoured, on single fire will expend 4)

just bow because it strong and stunlockable with range
all you need is more than 6 arrow and u will able to 1v1 them zeds
then rush to door with hole u can shoot through if there more than one stack on each other
rush into room when they follow u and zip zap they will gotten slow down if u overcombuer. when u open door they gonna push aside they face gonna clip through and u can shoot
