Big Raft Problems
so can you guys explain to me... lets say there is a big wind dragging me towards outside the map... and the map goes like... go back to the normal map or die... but the wind is totally against me.. what am i supposed to actually do? dive into the waters and abandon my big raft and get eaten by the shark? or stay on my raft and die by going too far out of the map? even if i did stop the raft before that happens the wind might stay that way for another 3 real life hours and i will just starve to death or something... is there like paddles or a machine i can attach to it soo i can get out of this situation? not sure what's the deal there i just see the game going like... do you wish to die by a shark or die because you left the area? die now or die after a bit? yea i will just go ahead and chose now

Hello :)

If the wind pushes you close to the map border, you should definitely stop.

You can also try to sail slightly diagonally against the wind and zigzag to get closer to the shore again.

But even if you stop, that's not necessarily the end. Your character will not die quickly even if it is deficient. It is best to sit down and wait, there, in principle, you do not use up large reserves. As soon as the wind has shifted, you can sail closer to shore again.

soo you are asking me to go by 1 km/h until i reach back to land?

You should be able to turn the mast to catch the wind.

While it would be stupid to allow the mast to fully rotate 180 or 360. Maybe allow it to go left or right 25 degrees so you can catch the wind a bit better.

i would just say why not just add paddles in case the wind is against it? having hopes that the wind will be always in your favor isn't the best idea and even if i did have some speed which would been slower than walking i would just prefer to get eaten by the sharks at this point

Use the Q and E keys to roate your sail if you weren't already. You can also press S to raise your sail and stop and/or raise sail and press F to lower your anchor, that should pretty much stop you where you're at.

In real life sailors use a method called tacking which also works in game. You maneuver in a Z or zig-zag patter against the wind. Go left at an angle then turn and go the opposite direction diagonally. It's kinda slow but faster then waiting for the wind to change.

Just a tip when I'm making the turn I left of W and press S to raise the sail then press Q or E to change to roate the sail/mast and turn the raft THEN lower the sail again. It prevents you from getting pushed back or slowed down when change directions.

I found a " big paddle " in an inrerior town in a bedroom closet.

no its not a problem about finding one... its the problem that you can't use it on the big raft

There is no way to use paddles on the big raft as of now. If you get stuck you can un-anchor and push it from the land/shallow water or another raft.

yea pretty much... if the wind is against you and you are between 2 rocks you just can't go forward and get unstuck... but i guess the Devs will tell us once again to wait for the wind to change in order to take our big raft for a walk... while the smallest version raft which needs 100% less items goes same speed as the big raft but instead guess what? you can also control where it goes... the only reason someone will literally pick the big raft currently is for the big inventory space but what's the point of going fishing with it and having the big space if i can't bring it back home??? like sure Devs i can wingle wangle around until i get what i want but why to do that when i can always have the smallest version going like the big raft best wind possible towards the direction you want but you can also control where you actually go? it just doesn't make any sense

I've used both and I'm pretty sure the big raft goes much faster then the small raft. Yeah you have to navigate the wind but it also doesn't require fuel and it's the only vehicle you can craft yourself for transportation.

the only problem on big raft is when you enter in the shelter or just enter in other seats and when you stand up your character is lost in the big deep XD

now try using the small raft and scroll the wheel up... yea it has fast mode and slow mode and it took me a while to figure this out

Hey there OP, just to let you know, you can actually go against the wind if you position your raft in proper position and shift your sails to catch a bit of wind, you can shift the sails with Q and E, also do note that you will be going slowly when moving like that and the (the tactic with moving against the wind is to move zig zag to gain distance.)

i strongly disagree on that... i clearly try to go from A2 to Z2 traders since like a hour now and no matter how much i spin these sails or the boat i clearly can't go to the traders.. i am given only the option of having my big raft standing still or having it move backwards... i am not kiding like literally give it a try for yourself and put it against the wind and try to make it happen... there is no way to make it work

if i go to a entirely different sector then yes i can get to where i want but why do we have to do that? no player will say at this point... yes i will take the raft soo i can change 2-3 different sectors to get to where i want to go because the wind is against me at that moment and islands are blocking my path... you could easy fix this by giving the raft more movement speed or giving it the paddles option or giving it the option because currently the big raft isn't appealing enough

I live on a small island and use the big raft exclusively to get to the mainland and sail through difficult places. It takes practice to be sure. I can post a video on YouTube of how I do it but I've never had to go to a different sector to change course. I've sailed across multiple sectors, the only thing I haven't done yet is sail through small channels but that is more because it's risky being ambushed.

I learned out to how sail exactly because it's difficult and it provides safety for me to play solo on servers where there's multiple large squads.
