There is some RPG mechanics to it. You get so many points at the start to build your character. After that they will either increase or decrease depending on what you do and how you play. Carry a lot of heavy weight and your strength will go up. Stop carrying it and drive everywhere in a car and it will go down. The same is true for the other skills except intelligence. They plan to include a way to increase that in the future.
To be able to use all of the blueprints you will need at least 3 in INT, so for now start it with that if you want the higher blueprint items. You also will need a sufficient level in the skills under INT for some of them, so they won't all be available right away.
As long as you have a 3 in the main attribute you can get all of the skills to expert, but it's going to take a LONG time. They've set it up to discourage people from becoming super-soldiers. You'll want to decide what's important to your play style and concentrate on that. Keep in mind that the difference in your characters abilities goes up at a decreasing rate. The difference between no skill and basic skill is large. Basic to medium is decent, but not as much. Medium to advanced even less. There isn't much difference between advanced and maxed.
You can build a base solo, but you will need to have some higher skill levels to build the higher tier walls if you want to go that far. Again, it depends on your play style.
The best way to learn the game is to play. If you hit a snag you can google an answer or search here in the forums to see if it's already been answered. As for your attributes, you can hold CTRL while hovering over them to see what increases and decreases them. You can also hold it over items to see descriptions. It will take some time to get into things. At only 2 hours you've barely scratched the surface.
Once they get to 1.0, and all of the mechanics of the game are implemented (and sometimes removed) and they're done with the massive changes they should be able to get some more instructional material, like the tutorials in the quest menu, together.
do not be worried. You can learn any core attribute and any skill except Intelligence itself. this is for now the only CA that is not raisable during gameplay. Everything else can be learned. You can learn any skill up to its max if you want to.
In creation you just need to give attention to int. Putting int on at least 3 is required to learn everything to the maximum level.
You can then start to learn anything by just playing the game. If you want to build a base, you can do that! Even if you start with low engineering, it can be raised very quick by just building stuff, you do not need to finish the stuff. With a little trick, you can raise engineering on lvl 1 very quick and with it, you can basically build a solid base.
Feel free to ask any question, on a side note, you can also read the Scout tutorial tipps, they are a basic knowledge for the gameplay and a overview itself and may help you also. they can be found here in the forum in the stickys. :)
Clean rags or bandages you loot work, you cant craft a bandage
For instance, if you're in a pinch, don't have any bandages, you could cut up one of the clothing articles your wearing and heal with the bandages you just "crafted."
Scum is a very easy game if you understand it ;) Play Scum like you act in real life. You need to eat, stay warm, heal... About skills, like in real life, they are affected by conditions. You will be weak when injured. You will lose dexterity when being cold... Scum is the easiest game ever, once you know it tries to simulate being alive! ;)
About healing, here there is a nice video. Like in real life, you can run with an open wound, but you will not go far ;) https://youtu.be/UGIjTREpZMY?t=263
Welcome to Scum. Here is my tip, do not attack your enemy player until you know you can defeat them. Maybe you think you have one "tango" but maybe that "tango" is not dancing alone ;)
Apparently medical bandages heal you faster than rags. Also painkillers will heal you faster. And like in real life you will not be running around in the forest with no shoes ;)
Final tip. I always watch videos of what you can do in a game before I play the game. Then play the game not taking it to seriously but learning. With time, doing that, you will be on the top ;)
You can find great tips for Scum here! RayKit YouTube channel (look for the "One Minute Scum Tips" tutorials)

Welcome to the family. By the way, not every player on Scum is an enemy, it could be your next brother in arms ;)
You are creating rags, not bandages.... you cant build a makeshift pack, makeshift stabproof vest or anything else with a bandage. Rags (clean) will work the same as a basic wound dressing but they arent bandages.
I will rephrase, you can indeed craft rags that can be used as a bandage
