SCUM

Why dont PVE players like PVP?
I am an admin on a server that has both PVP and PVE areas. Most of the people stay within the PVE area. I want to know the best way to encourage them to participate more in PVP.

For those who tend to only play PVE, what are the particular reasons why you dont like to engage in PVP? Is it that you feel that you are not very good at PVP? You dont want to loose your items? You feel interactions in PVP areas are always negative? Or is it something else?

Thanks, in advance, for your help in figuring this out! :)

What do ppl do in "safe zones" anyways?? Dance?

Well it's a lot of stuff actually, you can go and do dancing if you really want to but mostly it's used for safe trading between players as you can't steal each other cars destroy them or even lockpick them. You also can't kill other players so it gives you safe place to do your trading with others.
I think the "safe zone" is a great place to shadow ban these "hackers" or "cheaters"- all of which is vastly overestimated- As a learning programmer, I happen to know for a fact that the real instance of software interference "hacking" is incredibly low, and overreported asf. Why? Because people honestly don't understand the time investment and know-how required to A) cheat with any degree of efficiency, and B) to do so without making it obvious or attributable. It also makes sense that if someone was going to cheat, they wouldn't do so recklessly, as the person who is smart (and bored) enough to do so likely would be selective and choose a target that would have maximum effect, not just a random kid whittling a spear...

Your tips in your reply to my comment in regards to PvP are basically "spend your play time doing the very same things you just said you dislike about strictly PvP servers".

I do not. But maybe I misspoke.

I do not have the time nor the desire to spend my time stalking players, mocking them, camping them into oblivion and and trolling them "for funsies".

Don't read between my words.
I don't mock nor troll. It's a survival game with PvP elements, fights could happen.
A strategy, even a simple one, is what define if you survive or not, if you succede or not.

The exact point my reply to OP's question was making was that those are things i do not enjoy doing or having happen to me and thus why I choose to play on PvP-PvE servers where that level of pettiness(or extreme thoroughness depending on your perspective) is not as common and I have the option to actually use the base building mechanic without that pettiness getting to a level where even the simplest of constructions are torn down by people who derive pleasure from that style of play that limits other players to which game mechanics they can actually use.

I understand your point.
I was trying to tell you that this game is more than build-storeloot-craft.
And this "more" could bring a lot of fun.
But you are free to play SCUM as you like.

It would be like me saying to you, a person who clearly loves all that stuff, who loves PvP and camping and mocking and trolling that you should go join a PvE server where you wouldnt actually enjoy the style of play because I, someone who enjoys PvE (with PvP only in certain areas), say its the best way to play. No doubt you would wholeheartedly disagree.

Again with mock&troll....really cannot understand why you use these words.
Maybe you've played in servers with rude guys....sincerly cannot understand it.

I can easily play in a PVE server. I'm a long time PvP and PvE player. Love both.
I played SP for 1k hours, maybe more.
Just I try to adapt to the game I play and in SCUM without PvP you really miss A LOT of things. The feeling of not being safe when going around, even if you don't meet anyone.
The feeling of a distant shot. A shade moving around in the town.
A explosion inside a bunker....
In a PVE environment I don't have the same feeling when I play.

So my post wasn't about how cool is PvP, how boring is PvE.
Was about how nice is SCUM and how you can fully enjoy it.

But again you are free to play it as you like it.

This game SCUM, has a unique set of challenges- for many reasons and the solution isn't an easy one. SCUM is attempting to do things that no AAA outfit would think of trying, even publishers with a virtually unlimited budget- why? Well to put it simply, the technology (hardware) hasn't caught up with the game. Some people will try to convince you that frames drops and lag in SCUM are due to un-optimized code or lazy devs- this is far from the case. How can I say this? 1 reason: look at what the game is trying to do and at what LOD it's asking to do it at- not to mention all the metabolism, fuzzy logic (for NPCs), ambient environment, bullet physics, ect, ect, ect... It's simply impossible to have that much math and execute that many calls with that many variables at that level of detail with those textures- to happen seamlessly. Anybody who knows anything about software engineering or programming can tell you that. Am I still a believer? ABSOLUTELY. The game has more raw potential and more balls than any ip ever. Period.

Yes. I've seen a similar thing when I started to play SCUM. It is a different game, a new approach. And I love projects like this.

People that think out of the box, take the risks, accept the difficulties (cannot imagine the stress the team have gone through) just to make great things.

Devs will always have my support, even if I won't play it anymore.

When you die, target them. Mock them. Try to understand where their base is. Or the looting ground.

First mine their base....not everydays. Just now and then.
Not near the doors, a bit far away but in a path they will take when leaving the base with vehicles. They will get upset! Trust me! :)
Find the bunker or town they love. Usually the nearest one. Camp that place.
Mine it or snipe them.

That's not reading between your words. those are your literal words. Mocking someone is one of the simplest forms of trolling there is, so yes, trolling.

I've clearly stated I play PvP PvE servers rather than just flat out PvP servers. Not sure why you keep ignoring that fact and keep trying to convince me I'm missing a huge part of the game. Just because i don't enjoy spending my play time mocking (yes, your exact words again), camping (also your words), targeting and hunting a specific player over and over because they happened to kill me one time and just flat out trolling (what I believe to be an amalgamation of most of those things and more), doesn't mean I don't enjoy the game.
In fact, NOT spending all my time doing those things brings me far more enjoyment and makes the skermishes I run into far more meaningful and enjoyable, win or lose.

It's quite shady to say do all those things then pretend you didnt say it and it was just "reading between words". Not sure if you're trying to be ironic or just have a short memory.

Enjoy your time in SCUM, then. :)
Well I don't know if it has been said here already, because I didn't read the whole thread, but for me it's just not what I would do in real life. I like survivals, because i fight against nature and maybe "monsters" (I don't care if they're called Puppets, Zombies, Robots or Vambies), but I wouldn't want to fight against real people. I don't hold a grudge to others just because they want to survive, too. Instead I want to work together with them... that's just my nature.

Also: I'm old. :D
and no gun-toting hip gangster wannabe...
you can do both on a pve server events are pvp no loot loss people but they are rinse repeat!

Same. SCUM has a unique place in my heart, and it's earned that by offering something that isn't available anywhere else. Is it the best "hunting simulator"? No. Is it the best "fishing sim"? Nope. Is it the best raw shooter? Possibly, although I think that "Ground Branch" may have a slight advantage there- maybe... Is it the best open world survival game? EASILY.

And that with only being roughly half done...
Thank you, Smokey57. I'd be surprised if it's even half done, as I suspect this title will be in beta for a minute, and who knows how much the devs have in-store for us... At the rate they are currently adding assets/content the sky is the limit!
1. dont like losing all my items.
2. Also really crappy at PvP
