Air drops next to player bases
So, I just started playing the game. Got excited to get my first air drop, and what's better it dropped right next to my camp! I proceed to pick a few locks, and get some nice stuff out of it. I ran out of screwdrivers, so I started packing away my new loot when the buzzer starts going off. I figured it was about to shut and lock up, and had no idea it was going to blow up! What's more, I had no idea the explosion would destroy every item I had stashed in my boxes! I know this game subscribes to learning the hard way, but it's kinda hard to get motivated to start again when the game mechanics take everything you had away and there's not much you can do about it. Admittedly, it's kinda funny. But it's something that makes the player want to log out and walk away, more than stay in the game and continue playing. For someone who has only 10 hrs play time, and has spent most of that time getting familiar with the game and has only just started getting a foothold on how the game plays, that's hard to come back from.
A quick google search showed that this has happened enough for it to be an issue. Some of the threads I read, seemed to indicate that some players believed it had been fixed so that the drops weren't supposed to fall near player camps. Others said it hadn't been changed and it didn't need to be. I don't think it's so bad that the drops fall near player bases. The part I do think needs changed is that it destroys everything . I mean everything. I was able to recover the items I had on me, but the items that were tucked away in containers were all gone. I searched the area thoroughly. It doesn't make much sense to me, that items protected only by my clothes and backpack survived the explosion, but items inside metal containers did not.
At any rate, I think this is a pretty lousy experience to have in any game. I'm not opposed to taking some hard knocks and even having to start over when I make a mistake. But when the game literally drops a bomb on everything you own, and takes you back to zero in your first couple days playing, that makes for a pretty lousy new player experience. Hopefully I'm just super unlucky and it doesn't happen too often. But, from what I've read after searching it seems to happen often enough that many others have complained about it.

Yes, you were super unlucky, and if you deliberately tried to make a base in order to make this kind of thing happen, you likely would never be able to manage it. Just a stupid freak, and i mean VERY freak accident. I don't know how many people you googled that have had it happen to them, but out of the millions (or at least hundreds of thousands) of people who have played much SCUM, it's an extreme rarity. So scratch it up as a negative lottery win, a bizarre twist of fate that you've now gotten out of the way and which will now never happen to you ever again, and dive back in and have fun.

I've played over 1300 hours of SCUM, and it's never happened to me. I think one landed maybe 100 meters away from my cabin once, but that was the closest.

I think if one landed really close to my cabin, I'd be packing as much crap from the cabin containers into the truck as possible and getting out of there.

I for sure will be doing this if it ever happens again lol! I didn't know it would blow up. I thought once the timer ticked down, it would shut and seal back up. So once I was out of there with the loot, I wasn't worried. Turns out...I should have been! Ahh well. I've been playing since I made the post, and am slightly ahead of where I was before that little mishap.

Tip: the blast when the timer is done goes out to about 60 meters, so park your vehicle out past that when you drive up, just in case. It's not such an issue anymore though, since they recently added the timer clock right there so you can get out and away in plenty of time.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for any inconvenience. This was really unlucky and I'm sorry to hear that you've got your base obliterated in such a way. Supply drops should not fall near player built bases so it seems to be a bug.

Was this in multiplayer or singleplayer ?

How does the game recognize a player base? Does it only see the flag area and if you build stuff without placing a flag it can land next or does it count every player build item and create an exclusive zone around it?

It counts every base building element and avoids that radius.

This happened in single player. I had built right outside a small collection of houses in D2.

In singleplayer mode cargo drops fall much closer to the player location as you are the only player on the map. Unfortunately, it seems that your case has pointed out a misjudgment on our side and a bug that will need fixing. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and sorry for any trouble this has caused you. We will do our best to fix the issue as soon as possible.

Burriend chests or if you laying them on the ground dont save them from explosions. You need to place your stuff behind walls to hide them from explosions or ballistics. Now you know! And btw, you just were super unlucky...
