Fishes do not seem to get tired, if they first start pulling so hard that you gotta give them more line thinking they get tired after a while, they do not, they will eat more and more of the line, so making a fish tired does not seem like its implemented yet, if you figure a fish is stronger than your line, just press ESC to end fishing, your bait will be gone but your equipment saved.

After all it seems that making a fish tired was implemented, or has been silently introduced since fishing was launched. If somebody knows something, feel free to reply on this thread.

It does get tired that's why you will need to pay attention, unfortunately for now it's not getting tired in the way it should but you still have a chance to catch it.

While still pondering upon what xKiCkx said, i made a little video visualizing my style of catching bigger fish, with mousewheel and shift key actions shown. https://youtu.be/WErS4gSphxQ

Redlining the reeling bar does not build up into a memory, meaning, with the bigger fish you can let it dip into red while reeling in, and immediately give some line to make it go down, and repeat that without cumulative penalties.

Using a worm, a bread bait or a cheese bait, you have a higher chance of getting smaller fish, there might be other baits too giving that result. (I have started collecting data on this, i will report results when i have enough, and keep adding more to it.)

MAJOR TIP:
For getting your gear back from that too big of a fish, just press ESC at any point and the fishing ends, you only lose your bait from doing that...though only if you are even given the time to react. Just keep giving the line like mad(rolling the mousewheel forward), until you make it to the ESC key.

TIP:
Game now has 2 types of cheese that have the same icon, only the original cheese (called Cheese) can be turned into cheese baits. Corn baits are made from Sweet corn, that canned one.

Every bait seem to have the chance to give you a line breaking catch, so a worm does not guarantee a small fish.

If the floater is too close to you, the fish will not bite. (not 100% sure if its the case always)

TIP:
Focus mode indication only means the location has fish in it, the exact spot for the indication has nothing else to do with fishing. (Conclusion after catching thousands of fishes)

TIP:
One of the three floater types is luminescent making it possible to do fishing in complete darkness.

TIP:
If you want to take a 3rd person selfie while holding the fish with the keep/release choice on the screen, enter either the tab menu or a map and exit it once, it then lets you to rotate the camera, with alt pressed.

TIP:
To return back into the "holding" mode for the rod, just press ESC

TIP:
Carry the rod in holster or put it in the backpack so you dont risk losing your gear if the line catches onto something when walking around.

When fishing in shallow waters, walking towards the fish does not count into reeling, it will only push the fish away the same amount.

Catching a fish does not give you FP.

A pike seems like it can be found in the same places you find it in real life, amongst the reed.

When boating, you can anchor the boat at any point, and do fishing from that. As you do that, you might want to keep heavier gear in the boat cargo instead on you, so that if you tip over the boat, you wont drown. For keeping the boat from tipping, you want to be near the center line of it at all times, just like in real life.
You can go standing onto the bow of the common wooden boat as it has a nice even platform for it. Before you put your backpack to the cargo hold, you want to take as many bait as possible outside of the backpack into the cargo of the boat, from there you can directly double click over a bait you want to use and voilà it appears onto your rod.

Looking to get a shark by fishing? Sorry:

Although if you get one killed:

Can you then chop it for meat if you get it near shore?
Yes you will need to chop them up to get Fillet and then you will be able to eat them.

  • World spawned 0.50 fishing line at last, found one on 8.8.2021 V0.6.1
  • 35+kg Tuna catched my record chanced to 36kg early july

The frustrating part of fishing with a long line seem to be implemented, so you can get your line stuck in a bush behind you while throwing the bait out there and a "snap", or while walking with your equipment at the shoulder it snaps to a nearby tree branch.

Cooking fish, nothing extraordinary, was looking to see a faster time to get stuff cooked but seems to be the same as with meat. Also noticed a nice new effect while cooking a steaks of Bass, steam rising.

It looks like the smallest of the pond[imgur.com] have been left without fishy fishes.

The fishing is already well done. I am an angler myself. I wüscnhe me but a little more equipment... zb bottom fishing with bite indicator... casting reel... better line (0.50er)

I'm sure the devs will revise the fishing, but already it's a lot of fun.

It is, im stuck on finding more fishing equipment and just getting back to my spots, yet to find my greatest real life opponent, the pike. Patch notes have only 2 fresh water fish going beyond the 25mm line limit, so i guess those ones are very common fish, line breaks so often.

I can confirm that if the fish is stronger than your line it will probably break.
There are lines for 1kg, 3,5kg and 10kg. The 10kg line should be enough for any fish but bigger fish will put up a good fight. I think this is intentional.

Giving line vs. don't give line and pull him in a bit is a game in itself. From my experience: Don't give line, wait until the stress on the line gets lower and pull in just a tiny bit, rinse and repeat works best. It might take a few minutes but you will catch the fish eventually.

I had the most fun so far on a boat. Standing on a boat in windy weather while waves are bobbing your boat up and down. The clouds above you, the sharks beneath and maybe a sniper at the beach while you are fighting with a fish. That is quite an experience :joy_inmind:

So were these fish more than 10kg? I have yet to see a fish that does not go to the red but barely stay under and lets me reel in. Most have been either just not giving any resistance or taking 1/3 of the reeling bar when idle, reeling ofcourse makes the bar raise up.

I gotta test not giving them line, so even if the bar is to the red, just dont give line, but dont reel either, just wait till it goes lower?

I find that the fishing line breaks much too quickly

Give a little line when it goes red, but not much. Just so you always stay below red. When the stress on the line is getting lower - Tip your mouse wheel to reel in. It will go red again. Wait a second and stress on line should again get lower. Over time you should be able to make more and more distance. It's not easy but i can confirm that it works.

Overall things might get re-balanced depending on feedback. At the same time fishing is also kind of competition so it shouldn't be too easy. Who knows, maybe at some point we will get server statistics about who catched the biggest fish to players can compete against each other.

I know, what a bummer. Also fish guts could be magic. Flys work too but hard to put in the hook.

Got some really nice feedback from here guys, keep it coming!
We'll do our best to take the feedback and enhance and balance out the fishing feature.

If i could ask, is the red zone in the bar something that has a memory and builds up each time it goes up there, or does it reset everytime you get it back to blue? Cant figure that one out, if it resets i guess a momentary red-zoning isnt that bad.

The best reel, 0.25 line and the small hook... still it is impossible to fish a catfish. The line always breaks. C3 lake

Of course, you still balance fishing. I would like to have such a toy for the big fish.

Very very good update:steamhappy:

I'd love if they put a big fish proof line in the game but make it reaaaally rare to find. 20kg, maybe over. That wont still get you every fish possible, but some of the bigger ones youre not getting now.
