No. I found one (just one) in A4 town shortly after 0.,6 dropped. I think the hunting shops in the city are more consistent, which is why they get mentioned so much.
2. The fishing poles need an increase in how often they show up in loot. It's kind of crazy that I'm finding multiple guns in a town and not a single fishing pole despite being a coastal town (as some have suggested may be a good spot to look).
I agree, but keep in mind where we are in the development. The final polishing for the loot tables won't happen until much closer to 1.0. Some of the rareness might be to keep food from becoming too abundant again. Everyone would suddenly love sushi dishes. A tweak now, since they aren't weapons and it shouldn't unbalance things too much (just IMO), would be nice.
I understand the desire to keep food rather scarce, but I feel like the fishing rod is just one component of many in-order to get food. You still need the hooks, fishing line, and reel to actually use the fishing rod right?
It just seems odd to me that there was a major update that was relatively water/nautical based and boats and fishing rods are so hard to find.
Thanks for answering.
I've looted a couple docks/coastal cities at this point but I just don't know if I'm looting the correct containers. Should I be looting the cargo with the big rope strapping the tarp onto it? Or is it the rectangular wooden cargo boxes?
Since it's a co-op private server I'm probably going to just go to Samobor to check out the hunting shops, but I'm literally on the opposite side of the map in Z3 which is why I was hoping Samobor wasn't the only reliable place to get fishing poles.
I don't think people would be too upset if fishing was a more reliable method of getting food. You already have birds flying around everywhere that you could easily kill with a crafted bow and arrows. People aren't going to all start* fishing because the rods are more common, scavenging is still way more consistent especially if you consider the multiple farm fields with grapes/olives.
In game should be plentiful fishing gear especially in houses by rivers or see you should be able to find all and everything easily without putting to much effort. It is very sad to see that you can find plenty weapons shotguns mp5 and other weapons and ammo more often then fishing gear ( where is primary source for food).
Unless in scum lore this island was design primary as gun ho prison full of weapons then............
At that point I got off due to irl responsibilities, but I'm hoping when I get back on, the stores will have reset and I can possibly loot another.
I agree with PapaBear's allusion to the fishing gear discrepancy. I have loot cranked super high and even still I have almost every gun in the game but ONE fishing pole.
I understand there is the improvised fishing pole, but I disagree with the notion that the "professional fishing poles should be rare to prevent easy access to food" as marktkm kind of hinted at.
We need to collect the rod, the reel, the fishing line and the hooks if we don't want to make the improvised versions. Due to the way the loot works it feels like I'm crafting 'Exodia' by trying to find all the pieces of a single fishing rod.
I've driven past many supermarkets, gas stations, houses, birds, fields of crops, etc. - these are all easy ways to get food. To say "fishing poles should be rare because everyone would love sushi [i.e. fishing for main source of food]" just seems incorrect to me.
All I need is to find some sort of field with grapes, olives, apples, etc., craft a bow & arrows, and just shoot birds and I easily have a relatively infinite food source. Is it easy to kill a flying bird on the first try? No; but I can also easily make a ton of wooden arrows as needed.
The way fishing works now is it feels like I have to jump through hoops/complete challenges in-order to "unlock fishing" which doesn't feel like a natural progression through the systems of this game.
I love this game and I believe gamepires is heading in a great direction, but with so much depth in the fishing system I'm kind of surprised that it's so hard to find a legitimate rod. If you look at the fishing related achievements you can see that they all have a very low completion-% on Steam which is likely due to how complicated it is to start fishing.
On a co-op/PvE server there's not a whole lot to do once you've looted a few bunkers. Fishing opens up a lot of content because now you need to assemble the rod, find a good coastal base to set up and perhaps even a boat with a good fuel source. If fishing is too difficult to get started then the food alternative is simply scavenging or shooting birds until you get bored.
TL;DR - After playing for about 2 days in-game I finally found ONE fishing rod in the third hunting store I looted in Samobor. You can see where the hunting shops are by turning on the "Samobor POIs" filter on the scum-map app [https://scum-map.com/en/]. I understand where marktkm is coming from, but I think the worries of everyone switching to fishing are unfounded as even if rods were easier to find, they are still only a single piece of assembling the fishing rod.
Be prepared, they said during a Q & A just prior to the .60 release that when more of the metabolism and medical are added the field harvesting and animal harvesting will be risk vs reward with disease and illness being able to come from it. They also said that loot will be changing to make it harder to just stock up on stuff or find things easily. Even rivers and lakes will be able to give disease and ailments depending on other variables. Fishing with all improvised may become a key later down the road.
