Melee Weapons Damage?
Just curious if there is any data source showing the damage stats for all the melee weapons?

I am not aware of any specific values from the developers. I have already read that a developer commented on this and they tended less to publish these parameters, as the final balance has not yet been found. Also the close combat will probably get a revision in the future.

Personally, I can only recommend weapons to you.

Do-it-yourself weapons are available quickly, but not particularly strong in the long run. The sword and katana have much better abilities. Axes are also still very good. I think the most painful thing is still the sledgehammer. But I can be wrong. I didn't need a lot of punches with this one.

It is also based on how good your respective skill is. The better atmelee combat and physical strength, the more damage and combos you'll deal in close combat.
Scum database is an unofficial and outdated database that should have some stats.

Thanks everyone. Curious for example how the club with nails is compared to the improvised hatchet and the improvised sword. I used to love the improvise hatchet in that it seems to hit quickly but now that the puppets hit so hard, I'm debating something with a longer range (even the spears). The sword is another option - doesn't seem as quick as the hatchet but appears to give you a bit more distance and hits decent. For that matter I'm curious as to how the improvised stone axe is. All in all just curious how the different weapons really compare to each other.

The katana and sledgehammer used to be very good, although you had to adapt and handle them differently. I feel like they have both been "nerfed" as they feel more sluggish to use now. Maybe the scale of "power" while using those weapons is balanced with the new strength stat now being capped at 8 instead of 5, I don't know. It just feels off.

My character has advanced melee and 4 str, 5 con, 5 dex, I've used melee successfully for months in the past and have spent a few hundred hours on this 0.6 character; using the sledge, katana or "legendary" yellow katana now, feels about equivalent to using a cheap hand-made sword that I crafted 5 minutes after my character was created. This doesn't "feel" right.

I haven't tried all of the other crafted weapons and tools, if anyone has insight on some that have changed drastically for the better I'd be very interested in hearing about it!

The Katana was a Long time Overpowered Sword. It was funny though, to kill nearly every Puppet with one Hit but, that was to Strong for a One side Bladed weapon.

But maybe i can give a little bit Advice in Terms of my Experience with the Weapons in more detail :

Improvised Weapons:

1h-Stone Hatchet <-> If you have absolute nothing, it will do the Job. But not on the Long Term. It is not durable and its lacks power in comparison to the Hatchet you can find. Also weight is heavy for such a little thing.

2h- Stone Ax Strong thing! Sadly also not very durable on the Long run. Is a very slow weapon. Good for First Strikes, bad in Defense. Against Groups underwhelming. Against single Opponents very usefull.

Spear (All Variants) <-> If nothing other is there then yes. It has sadly a very low Damage. Sure, you can hold them a bit away but that can turn fast into a disadvantage. Spears are not made for close Combat. A good Weapon for Defense and Hunting Small Animals. But not the choise against Puppets or Armored Targets. But usefull, from fighting through Windows or raised positions.

Metalsword <-> It is a PAssable weapon! Balanced Damage, easy to Craft, can have different weight if you choose different Materials. (Minimum i achieved was 0.5) It atacks Fast enough and also is good in defense situations. With movement , you can handle even two at max three puppets if you know, what you do. Disadvantage, it is selfmade and not as durable as a Medieval Sword. the Low weight is a great + for this Weapon.

Metal Ax & Hatchet <-> the hatchet was a bit dissapointing. Better then its Stone version yes, but realy just a last defense Type of Weapon. More usefull for everyday work, but not durable. Its big Brother is Stronger but slow, it is a big weapon, will take a bit more space but also here, you can build it Lightweight if you take care of what materials you use. This way you can have a 2h Ax with the Weight of a Original Hatchet (1.5kg) Not durable but 1kg less Weight is worth it. Still a Slow atacking Weapon in Comparison to Swords and not the Best Damage.

Metal Knive & Kunai <-> Usable, both of them. But not as Reliable Offensive weapons. The Kunai is a very good tool, durable and leightweight, not great damage though. The Metal Knive is .... okeh,, sorry there was nothing that was good on this thing. the Kunai did the Work better and is even way more Easy to craft. (Less Material.)

Stoneknife <-> Tool, i would not say use it for Melee.

Clubs <-> wooden club is a Very good weapon! You should even consider it over the Metal Sword because you can Stun enemies with it so they fall down on the floor, giving you time to escape or recover. Both enhancements are very usefull. Nails as well as wire increase the Punch of this Classic but reliable Weapon. Also good for Creating Impro tooliboxes.

Stone Hammer <-> Not durable but a Lot of fun! Just because you can! :D
______________________________________________________

Original Weapons :

Katanas <-> Still the Reliable weapon it was before, except it is no onehit wonder anymore . But that is not Bad at all. Light Weight , long Range, Strong. A Very well Balanced Sword in all regards.

Medieval-Swords <-> Reliable! Yes, this Sword is Usefull even on very long terms. It will do the Job, is strong enough and atacks Fast enough with a weight of 1.1 also not a Heavy Weapon.

Ax/Hatchet <-> They are ok! They can Deal Damage, but they have weight. This weapons Exhaust you. Short offensive, no long time Fights and they will do the Job fine. the Big Ax is a heavyweight, it Packs a punch but is a Heavyweight in its Category.

Sledgehammer <-> Outch! that thing hurts, if you can lift it Fast enough.

Knives of all Kind <-> bushman is the Best, but also weights the most , both Mk knives are Reliable as tools, also as Melee Weapons. They are Extremly durable and usefull in long terms, weight 0.4. Hunter Knives : Do not use them in Melee! They have nearly no reach and with theyr short blade not enough power to deal with opponents. (That was a ride in Hell at the Ariport testing them!) Tools, nothing more. Kitchen Knives : Uhm, nah, get rid of them asap. They are not that much durable but can help you, with your first Steps.

Saw <-> A suprisingly effective Weapon / Tool! Does not brake too fast. Is easy to use in Close combat. I prefer them above Axes in Melee if nothing else is at hand.

Baseball <-> We have three of them. Metal, Standard and one with nice optics. Sadly only the standart one can be enhanced. They do the Job they have to do. Like with the clubs usefull melee weapons that can give you time to escape or knock down your opponents and also Reliable long Term Weapons wiht acceptable Weight.

Packed tree <-> Because SCUM! You can, so just go out and do it XD

This part will soon also aviable on my tutorial more detailed , and im sure i forgot some Weapons right now but you get a bit oversight with my Experience and maybe there are some helpfull things in between.

Pretty in-depth insight, thanks!

I find the spears to have excellent range (feels like the longest of all other melee weapons?) and are very easy to consistently hit "headshots" on puppets. Very combat effective for non-armored puppets and you can hit through windows/obstacles, something you can't do with other types of swinging weapons!

You mentioned crafting metal swords of different quality/weigths; which crafting materials do you substitute to achieve the optimal one?

Keep the tips coming guys, this is great!

Great info! Thanks for taking the time to write it out :)

I have written about this in the Pinned Scout Tutorial Help. :) You can get a detailed info about Differences in Crafting there.

After my Main Keyboard (R.I.P) has done its service it may take a while longer then expected to write the Weapons Section but i try to make it happen asap.

We didn't bother implementing anything of that sort into the game yet since we still have to rework the melee and unarmed combat. Once we add all the new animations and fighting styles into the game, we will implement the damage stat for all melee weapons.
