I can only confirm this unfortunately
I'm in a garage and there are puppets outside the main door.
Simple, I just clip through the door or wall with my gun and bang, they're dead!
One can even kill puppets with a spear through a solid wall...
but to be fair the m82 is one gun that could actually do it especially with AP rounds.
^This.
It's a .50 BMG anti-materiel rifle. Shooting through things is what it's made to do. And if it gets through, well, yeah, you're going to have a bad time.
Having said that, with the in-game mechanics each bullet has a certain amount of energy. Everything it tries to pass through absorbs a certain amount. If the bullet has more, it passes through. If it has less, it gets stopped. If you're facing people with a Barrett put more layers between you and them.
I haven't tested it or seen anyone else who has, but if they're keeping to accuracy the sandbag walls should help massively.
Edit: Ran into this tonight: https://youtu.be/SYQnRp9w9wU?t=787
If it passes through a solid ~19" green tree trunk, a coupla little wooden room walls sure ain't gonna slow it down much ;-)
BMG ammo is also the rarest of them all, it's also not craftable ...
