All other bows only take the silencers.
In the beginning I thought that would make the "normal" bows kind of useless.
And I'm quite passionate with the bow and it's always my primary distance weapon.
With the time and some practice (and the right skills for my character) I found out that the "normal" bows can work quite well even without sights.
The achievement of the "head-shot from >100m distance" I got with the #100 balista bow, not with the compound.
Never thought that would be possible.
But it is in deed more precise on longer distances (and is causing more damage).
Yes, in the lower # areas the compound bow beats the normal bows, particularly if you have the sights on it.
So, with my weak and agile characters I still prefer that one.
Only once you pass the #60-70 field the "normal" bows start to become interesting.
But your character needs pretty high strength skills (>4) to properly work with them.
I think the compound bow is adjusted to a value that enables you to maximize the time you can target without starting to shake.
And still #60 on the compound "feel" different from #60 on another bow.
But that's just a guessing, really.
