Is there a "trick" to lockpicking?
I swear there is, given that I have tried for hours. And what I took away from it, was that it just feels random. Sometimes I can pop 2 locks back to back, other times it takes 100 picks per lock.

I don't get it, and after watching a few youtube videos and having played on a couple different servers. There are just some people who can pop locks way more consistently. And that being the key word. Consistent. Which implies there is something to it.

I know macros exist that aid in picking. But having tried the software I have access to I can say that it may or may not even help honestly. It helps find the lock area but no where remotely useful as some of the "win buttons" I have seen around the videoscape.

I'm not asking for the secret (though I am all ears). I simply want some feedback/confirmation. From the people that can pop locks like in those videos (3 golds in 3 minutes).

Well perhaps you should watch this video of a lockpicker getting 3 golds in 20 seconds - he is consistent too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9pi4WGD4vs

Dude, it´s supposed to be hard if you find weeks of looting behind somebodies door. Go to a max loot server if you get this salty over not getting anywhere with lockpicking. Obviously enough people get it in order to support their squads. Like me, I´m not good in PVP but I pretty much most doors open for me. But even if I lockpick I still need my buddies to trash people´s palisades since so many palisade their doors which is waaaay lamer of a mechanic since there´s only bruteforce involved and absolutely no skill.

Lame? yes, fair? yes.
Why the hell would any sane person call an RNG based minigame a "skill".
I would much rather raiding be resource dependent than through some stupid RNG heavy mini game. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate loot boxes. Lockpicking just feels like a lootbox in stealing form.

Okay you are just here to troll, it was explained to you in all detail how skill is required and you still ramble on about rng. Discussion over.

Oh I agree. Personally speaking, locks should just cost a lot less fame, take away the quality of them and make lock picking easier. That way its more of a resource grind rather than RNG+ resource grind.

IMO the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minigame shouldn't even be there. Just have lockpicks/screwdrivers get automatically eaten up based on skill.

Conversely, a successful pick should cost more fame. That way you don’t just have a guy picking a dozen locks in one sitting. Maybe a fake cost= to 1/2 the cost of the lock.

what i actually noticed is that this ""feature"" success is heavily depended on ping being low. when im playing SP i get the full 3 seconds to figure out where the crack is and my macro works fine there as it starts pressing F as i see it happening but in multiplayer by the time my game displays the minigame a second of it has already passed and the minigame registers what my macro is doing while im not even able to see the minigame rendering it useless and breaking the lockpick almost instantly so in sort bad ping = no lockpicking for you

You have yet to prove how its not RNG, if you have a diagram of the lockpick fan shape that displays the cone of success or something then please go right ahead

That makes sense. I would rather have pass/fail attempt thing where harder locks take more fame, picks and higher skill to "succeed" without needing to do a minigame.

See I heard something about connection, couldn't verify this. If that is the case, that is honestly ♥♥♥♥♥♥. And IMO another reason why it should just be a skill/material/fame check rather than a fickle minigame
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'm 100% for this whole mechanic going. Find some other way to do it. I suck at it, it took me 200 attempts and a half hour of my life to get through 1 gold lock.

We got raided while I was present at the base, and a guy got through 12 in 20 minutes. It really is a make or break skill. I and/or my team can thrash them in a firefight, but as soon as we log off, the base is open.

Our dedicated lockpicker, who has practiced for about 50-60 hours in total, can sometimes get through 3 golds in about 70-100 attempts (10-15minutes), and sometimes it takes him 400+ (1 hour +) attempts. Yet this guy on the server, KNOWN for his ability to lockpick, will consistently get through 3 golds in around 4-5 minutes. EVERY. TIME.

Ruins the balance and pace of the game. Some, like I, just don't seem to be able to do it. Some are either cheating, like this thread seems to indicate, or are just consistently super-humanly lucky. It will forever tilt the balance of the game in favour of those who can do it. We have to blow up their base, which takes so much time, and so many resources. They can get through any amount of doors we place, within an hour. He can literally pick our base, faster than we can get the fame to put locks on the doors.

It's so imbalanced. Not to mention rage inducing. After picking that one lock, ♥♥♥♥ doing that ever again.

Yep 60 hours. SIXTY HOURS. For what? Some side mechanic or mini game in a SURVIVAL PVP game. That is absurd.

THIS is one side of the majority RIGHT HERE. The people that are PISSED OFF and ANNOYED with this mechanic. The other half? They don't care, they play solo, they don't have time to raid bases, or simply don't want to, and that is there choice.

But for the people that WANT an option to raid bases? They only have ONE, and its one that requires A LOT of time and or a natural talent for it, which is just plain absurd.

I said it before and I will say it again. Why don't we have a stick shift mini game? Why doesn't driving require us to deal with a "stick shift" mechanic? The cars ARE all stick shift after all?
Because the driving skill handles that for us obviously. So why the ♥♥♥♥ isn't lockpicking following the same logic? Or at least have an OPTION to follow that logic?

its really simple.

Add safe storage like burryable crates, need to be a bit effortful to store stuff. BUT SAFE

And then (damn i need really Bigger letters)

T H E N
W H E N
T H I S
C O R E
F E A T U R E
I S
I M P L E M E N T E D
A N D
N O T
O N L Y
P L A N E D
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then they can reduce the necessitys to rob a base

Y E S
R O B
N O T
D E S T R O Y
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until then have fun to play, i lost mine

While its probably not last version of lockpicking, are you seriously manage to say practice and skills of some players are game breaking thing?
Lockpicking of gold locks is hard and requires luck. If some players learned to be good at this - its nice, but not game breaking thing.
One guy manage to finish Sekiro Shadows Die Twice under 22 minutes. Is it absurd too? Or maybe this guy used to gain some skills in this game?

Yes. I am fully saying *lockpicking* as it is currently, is game breaking. I'm playing a PVP survival game, I don't want to spend 100 hours practising a mini-game mechanic that is 90% luck. Which evidently, some people, have apparently got a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MACRO for.

I'm not going to cheat, I don't think it's fun. Sadly, not all players think like I do. Why give players the ability to do so.

Your logic is also flawed. The mechanic is almost entirely luck.
You cannot 'learn' luck.

Yet there is no proofs of guy on video used any kind of macro. Im trying to find patch notes about actions delay timer (this thing added in some of recent patches) to stop using of macros programs.
Lockpicking of gold locks should be hard because yet this is best quality locks.
For now you guys seems to have little envy to orher player who have better luck on lockpicking. Once again, if using of macros will have some proofs, its gonna be another story. But for now this guy is looks like good lockpicking player.

How obvious would you need it ?

Look the video. Sufre there is 100% proof. You see the wiggling arround second 6.
Thats Pressing "f" with a sequence arround 5-10 ms
Do you really think you can press the "F" button 100-200 times in one second ?
