best is to sneak, an there is always a way to avoid gettin g touch with them ;)
One time.. they saw me from about 400m behind a wall..
People just need to learn to be more patient and watch patrol patterns as is obviously the intended mechanic. You can't just run willy nilly through the base like a dolt. Your gonna get shot doing that and thats what is INTENDED . Its working as intended and the MECHs are here to stay so people should get used to it and learn to actually think, watch and plan. The ones complaining are simply playing the wrong game. This is an ultra realsitic survival simulator. Go watch the bloody dev logs they were pretty clear about their intent and their vision for this game. I believe they even had a few choice words for "Casuals".
Also fairly sure they are neigh-immortal. At one point our group shot the ever living crap out of one with over 200 rounds of SVD ammo a few magazines of AK-47 and 74U as well as 7 grenades and it just kept on going.
