how do i light a fire?

Stupid question I know, I've got an improv campfire, a hand drill and tinder, though each time i go to light it fails, does the drill just have a super low success chance or am i doing somthin wrong?

As far as I know you need atleast basic skill of survival to use fire drill with success. Find lighter, matches or flint & steel to light a fire.

I do have survival up to basic but its just not lighting, which sucks cause I'm on my first ever char and I managed to grab a boar with a pistol and now im just tryna cook the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol

Trying to find some solution for you I found that on reddit:
"I noticed that if I have the fire drill in my hands and try to light a fire, I fail 100% of the time. As soon as I placed the fire drill in my bag and tried, the fire lit right up. Not sure if anyone else had this problem, but I thought I'd note it in case anyone else was having issues."

Also I recommend you simply craft another fire drill and try that out, I have a strange feeling that it might be some kind of bug, maybe other drill won't be bugged. Just a hint.

TBH I've never had a problem with fire drill, but my friend had those several times. But I was able to light the fire with fire drills that he wasn't able to light a fire with success. But I had noticablely better survival skill so I thought that's the reason.

I have had this problem. I found to have success with putting the lighting device on the ground in the vacinity of the fire pit, making sure the fire ring and the lighting device were the only things high-lighted in RED, right click the fire ring and select LIGHT. Sometimes when matches wouldn't work, a lighter would, etc.

I had never problems with the drill. In some videos on YouTube, some players put the fire drill near the fire place on the ground, than they select "light fire" and it bures.
I have my drill allways in the backpack and it works also.
