Crafting Lead Plates?

Am I doing something wrong? Have a sledge and a battery, battery is 96/100. I can't craft it, even though it says I should be able to - what am I missing?

Could be the battery not being 100%, ive had certain recipes not work because the 3 seperate ropes being used one of them is 9/10, and it wont change to the spare ropes that would work

The tool needs to be in your hands or inventory,
not in the vicinity, like jakobjanus said.

/edit: my assumption was proven wrong by Frle.
I based it on the fact that i couldn't craft rags or rag stripes with a stone knife on the ground.

You are not doing anything wrong, that car battery needs to be 100/100. We'll discuss if that should really be the case.

I just tried to break one with a pipe with 15/100 charges had no issue also start a new thread please don't revive old ones things change! Maybe you need engineering basic also!
