Better understanding of Camouflage
Hello all,

I want to understand camouflage a bit better. I saw some tutorials online but i am still not sure how it works 100% . I created a character now with advanced camouflage.

So lets say I am at the enemy base and i have advanced camouflage and the person inside the base has no skill in awareness * or basic skills*.
If I keep at least 40 m distance from the person, i should be *invisible* , right?
I have to crouch or lie, but i can reload and aim without loosing my camouflage, is this correct?

If all of the above is correct, whats happen if i throw a grenade at the base to get their *attention*. Will this automatically reveal my position??
-> I assume that no one looked at me/ saw me while i throw the grenade .

If I keep a distance of at least 40 m ( other player has no skill in awareness) and get spotted by another player, how can i go back to camouflage ? Do i have to get out of render distance? Or is it enough if the other player turn around ( so i am out of his/her view) and i change slightly my position?

Thank you for your help!
Best regards

Yes, thank you. I watch it yesterday and he explain it really well. With this video I found out about the 40 m distance ... and so on. Now I just watched it again. So looks like you have to move away from your enemy while he/she is not looking at you to re-trigger the camouflage .

Thanks for your feedback, Fruitbeard

this is Erokitc, he's a little off the wall but fun.

This video also has some things wrong. The devs have said that camo clothing matched to the environment gives a bonus to your skill.

I have a lot of questions about the camo clothing affect, too.

Does it matter what exact kind of camo you wear, in different biomes on the island? Like the brighter greenish shaded 'jungle' camo in the green forests, the more brownish style camo for the drier coastal areas, and the white-based camo variants for the snowy areas?

Or is it just as long as it's some kind of camo, yer all good? I'm not talking about the true 'player eye' detection, just the camouflage skill detection.

Does it matter if you mix and match? Will you have a poorer camo cover affect if you mix the green, brown, and white camo clothing? Versus having all your clothing and packs and helmet the exact same color/style of camo?

Does black and dark brown/green clothing with no camo pattern contribute anything to the camo affect? It surely should at night, at least. Technically, clothing camo style shouldn't matter much at all at night... purely dark clothing should be much better cover at night than any style of camo.

There was more, but i have spaced it out, so I'll leave it at that for now...

what was said (by devs) is that when you have camo matching your surroundings you get a bonus. Nothing more specific than that was said. I generally look for the word camouflage in the description of the clothing item to tell me if it qualifies. I don't know for sure if that matters but it's the only clear indicator i can see. So there really isn't specific answers to the questions you are asking. Maybe they'll respond to this post with more details this time, who knows.

Good questions, unfortunate more details haven't been shared since 2020. Is there a more recent post about this sbuject?

Yes:

I can confirm that camo is still disabled till rework comes into place, has been for some time now.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
There were exploits involved with it I believe so it was disabled, if I am remembering a post correctly...

It is still a skill for some reason that people who do not know it is disabled still put points into!

Camo skill is not working for ages.

You dont need camo in this game. There's already too much foliage. Plus dont want to encourage camping more. However a camo skill should only work against AI.

Yes, for now.

Hasn't been working in a very long time

It used to be that a player culd hide in a bush for a few seconds and would disappear to anyone who was not observing them. If another player was watching them as the entered a bush, then that player could still see them up until the observer looked away briefly in which the hiding player would disappear; but if you're switched on, you can easily remember which bush the 'hiding' player was hiding in and simply shoot into it.... so....

I think this might be why it was turned off. I don't know /shrug -its just my opinion that maybe it wasn't working as intended / exploited like my example above, even though its a legitimate tactic to use —albeit expensive, since you're expending ammunition to 'find' them

Have you ever even looked through a scope in this game?

I have whats your point?

Its not turned off. Its just been nerfed into uselessness.

Under the best conditions which are You have max camo and the observer has zero awareness you would still be visible under 120m. The distance only increases from there based on the awareness of the observer. So basically its working but its so bad its hard to tell it works at all.
