Car repair kit?
Finally found a good car and was able to fuel it up to the brim. It's got some damage that I want to repair and on YT I found out you need a red toolbox to do so... haven't found one yet and already discovered you can't use the small white ones.

Then I came across a "car repair kit". Lucky me. Unfortunately, I'm not able to use it. When I open the car menu, the "repair" option is greyed out. I tried putting the kit on the ground, having it in my inventory and also in my hands, but it never works.

Aren't these things functional yet or am I doing something wrong?

[edit]

It's got 53/100 uses and is in a 33% condition.

The ability to repair a car depends on your engineering and (I think) also the driving skill.
Not sure where the minimum requirements are atm.

You have to have basic level engineering to use the car repair toolkits. Found this out the hard way... had to grind eng for hours to be able to fix cars. FYI, there are two places I know of that you can usually find car repair kits and gas cans- the city repair shop in the middle of 'The City', and the maintenance sheds in the way back of the quarry. In the middle of the City, there's a walled-off section with two gates, inside is the fire department buildings and the city repair shop. Ain't squat in the fire dept., but the repair shop... jackpot.

You can level engineering at a reasonable pace if you use sewing kits to repair clothes. Then once you have basic you can level it pretty well with repair kits and other gear.

Building base parts to level it is awful. It takes ages to chop all the sticks up and you end up with something like 20XP for a wall.

Didn't take too long building no-skill double doors... 250 xp a pop. But yeah, was a lot of work.

Thanks for all the input guys!

I was planning to build a base anyway so now is a good time to start.
I already did some sewing so I guess that's where my 1% progress towards engineering comes from.
