SCUM

Attention Sound/music Dev. Just some questions
So, I've been playing a lot of some cool tunes in game, I've tried Scum Bard but cant get any of my own midi files to play correctly, the timing is waaay off. only the ones included can play for me.

I'm not sure who is the sound dev is or who is the one on the project but one can only ask

So my question is what is the plans for the future of the music creation in game?

I've been able to create my own midi files, then convert manually with pen and paper so I can play with the keys set up in game, but will there be a way to either load your own midi files or have a few tracks already loaded in game we can choose like the way the Taunts work.

will the sounds of the notes be updated?
Or will there be a way to make each note from each octave have its own key instead of using SHIFT and CTRL?

I like the feature, my only issue is when you try to play faster the notes get all garbled up, and Scum bard wont work with any MIDI I've downloaded or created.

heres a little diddy I cam up with this morning..

Sidenote: I totally get and fully understand that the musical part of this game is not anywhere near the top of the list of things to do as far as develop the game. But it's still on the list somewhere, I'm just curious..

cheers!

Nice! Love the tune.
I actually got a MIDI keyboard for Christmas to try with SCUM.
My initial testing came up with nothing because I have an external sound card with MIDI ports that are getting detected first, so the keyboard isn't working in SCUM right now. One of the devs doing that part said they'd eventually add a list of available MIDI devices, so you can select the right one in a list in the game menus. Just waiting for that before I go too far into messing with disabling my sound card MIDI ports. I guess with other issues taking prority, and moving the office, things get delayed. I'm still not sure, since I'm unable to test, but a MIDI keyboard should give you access to more than one octave at a time (if it has that many keys).

You found a sound card with midi ports? Creative hasn't sold any I've seen since the Audigy days. Still have my old Audigy 2 $300 sound card with the break out box and all the connections for recording/midi, but it only works correctly with Windows XP. Haven't seen any that do have midi ports... but haven't really looked that hard.

Yup! 2, actually. Presonus Audiobox 22VSL... and the 1818VSL. It's meant for audio capture and using with DAW software, so the MIDI I/O is kinda useful. New hardware usually just connects via USB and creates virtual MIDI ports.

Wait a sec, I read you can turn your phone into a midi keyboard that plugs via usb to the computer via an app. If the keyboard function was available in game would that work out? I'm a pleb when it comes to this kind of sound stuff on the computer..

That might work... If you can get your phone to show in Windows, Device Manager under "Sound Video and Game Controllers", you've got half a chance, I'd say. I think my only problem is having MIDI I/O on my only sound card, so the game doesn't (or isn't) defaulting to my MIDI keyboard. My Device Manager shows 2 MIDI devices... one in my sound card, and my Akai MPK Mini keyboard.

As long as it's a recognized MIDI device by Windows, I assume that would also work in-game. MIDI commands are MIDI commands no matter where they're sourced from, as far as I know.

Post your results if you have any luck! That might be a good way to get more people using that feature.

I'll take a look. I think much has changed since I last got into midi stuff on the PC. Thanks for the info.....

Hey everyone,

The MIDI feature will get the MIDI input selection function, but, at the moment, it's low on priority list.
Also, all instruments will get new and updated sounds.

Well, I couldnt wait, So i did my own MIDI to SCUM.. I slapped one together this afternoon. I'll do the other octaves later tonight and post a guide hot to get it to work.. It should be fairly simple to get it running.

Enjoy!
