sometimes it depends on knowledge and quality of mats
Right. I understand that. The question though is.. in some cases a needle and thread works as an alternative to the sewing kit. However, for the improvised backpack it only asks for a sewing kit and won't work with a needle and thread. I'm trying to figure out if that is a bug or intended. Are alternate items always alternate items or do they change depending on the crafting recipe?
As an example if you go into the crafting menu and look at the small improvised backpack you can toggle between the sewing kit and the needle in the components list. However, if you change to the larger improvised backpack there is no toggle and it only has the sewing kit as a component. Maybe that's intended but seems weird that it would work for one and not the other.
try lying all required mats on the ground
open tab look in the vicinity
click all required mats so they are highlighted red
try rightclicking different mats until you get an option to craft something
i hope this works 4 you
side note
also if the item in the crafting menu has no colored background you´re lacking skill to craft it
sometimes hard to see
as an example look at the cooking pot stuff there are some that have only grey/black color and there are some they have orange color the ones without color you´re lacking skill and therefore cannot craft it
some recipes support that different mats can be used but there is a bug where clicking the arrows does not work, thats why i told you try lying all mats on the ground
Two out of ten it responds back as it should do.. Just keep at it and it should pop as craft-able.
Devs:
The crafting info system is also very ... informative, red colors for opposite what people are used too, green is a color for "go" or "Ok", Red is not. Combine Red, (Yellow, if need be) and Green devs.
Intuitive, it is not. Plus bugs makes it harder to understand what you mean with your crafting system overall. But after a time you pick it up, but not trough the menus, trough what works and how to get glitches to let go and let you craft...
