Or did you edit any .ini file to set PostProcessing=0?
Those 2 things do the same thing, and doing either one makes your game MUCH darker. My PC isn't all that great, so I did it to try and eek out a few more frames per second. Once I realized how dark it made the game (headache level, like you said) I removed the "-SM4" option and set Post Processing to anything directly from the in-game menu (I think the menu doesn't let you turn PP off). I literally couldn't even make out stars in the sky with that option.
xD
priceless
XD
You can snicker and guffaw, but it doesn't help game development nor the OP.
There is a bug that cause the screen to go black.
It usually happens around midnight when you focus on animal tracks or throw something.
The OP is probably referring to how the game loads into daylight and after a moment adjusts to the servers "time of day".
The level of darkness that "renders" is probably intentional.
Ways to deal with it have been mentioned. Adjust your brightness, craft a torch etc.
Changing contrast and saturation levels can also help. The most obvious solution and potentially most difficult is to find night vision goggles.
And yes brass knuckles are rare.
You can decrease the "darkening" effect when you focus on animals at night with a higher Awareness-Skill.
And yes. After logging into the game you need a few seconds that the server time will be synchronized.
Wow, I had no clue about this. If that's correct, then that seems to be what scales the auto exposure values.
After reading over everything again, I assume the only real problem the OP is having is with the client & server sync when you login. The best quick fix I know of would for the devs to make the loading screen longer. This is the sorta thing loading screens are for. If there wasn't any, you would see the entire worldspace build & render before your eyes (everything popping in place).
If everything even at default is too dark for you silentborder, then I am very sorry. There is a load of threads in the hub requesting it to get even darker at times. You may even find me in some of them suggesting lighting at night to be influenced by realistic moon phases. What we have currently would be the brightest night of the cycle (full moon).
I know places around Huelva where you can't see ♥♥♥♥♥ at night. Especially on a new moon.
