Lesson Learned (about food and drying off)
Don't leave food in your inventory while drying your clothes next to a fire. It'll all be ruined when you're done drying off.

food next to a fire on ground cooks but slowly.
fire injures you now, and u cannot patch it, u have to incur a normal type injury to patch.

Thanks! Good to know =)
Doe's anybody know if Food is affected by PVP as well?
koirapoig May 4, 2019 @ 4:22am
food seems to be affected in chests nearby fire too Maybe even through walls. Had sizzling cooking sound coming all over even 10 minutes after putting fire out in my base. Dont build fires in smallish bases.

Yep, can confirm. Had all my steaks and cucumbers ruined, as well as my supply of Sea Salt when trying to dry off. Stash before you dry!

I'm just glad this does not hurt other items, otherwise drying off would be a pain.

What about just standing next to the fire? Does it also destroy stuff?

Yes!

All the items I had destroyed were in my backpack and waist-bags. I have yet to try items in crates, but 100% they are cooking inside the backpacks and other slots.

To be clear, only food items [Cucumbers, deer meat, and salt] were destroyed. Nothing else was damaged, including the packs.

I don't get this change and especially at this time. Crafting/cooking is already cumbersome and clunky and seems to serve no purpose when you can just eat food raw. Why make cooking and fires even more of a PITA before fixing the interface and cooking benefits?

Cooking is part of Metabolism and Sickness and has to be finished first.
To have effects on Metabolism you need Food and the Food has to be coded with all it's values. Sickness is also effected by Food. Eating raw or spoiled Food will cause sickness effects. That's why Food comes first. Or all at once maybe but it doesn't seem like it.

Why the fire-rework was necessary?
I dunno.. but i like it. I don't need to questioning everything. SCUM is the work of the Devs. Their will. Their creativity. Why is it necessary to have music instruments?
It is not, but when you start to think this way you can also ask why Games in general are necessary. Developement is a creatice process and Games are supposed to make fun. In enjoy the new Cooking System. It feels much more satisfying to actually cook your Steaks instead of watching one timer after another =)

Besides. A possible Explanation for the fire rework might be that the Code/Functions of Fire are later needed on other Features. It was say'd in Interviews that Scum might becomes Wildfires that can spread throughout the Map, burning down Woods or other Stuff. This might also explain the new degrading System. Has anyone else played Far Cry 2? :D

Another Explanation might that a timer + Calculations based on your Skill and RNG would be a bit too boring.

Not "questioning everything". Not even saying that everything has to be necessary. I don't question musical instruments because I can see the purpose. However, in the current state of the game it seems rather difficult/clunky/cumbersome to cook food and that was before adding the ability to now burn the food you are cooking.

I know what the benefits/dangers of eating cooked food vs. raw food and I know that is their long term plan but that isn't working atm. My point is that if you don't need to even cook food anyway..why make cooking more difficult before you make the cooking process more functional and beneficial? As a noob to the game I found it very confusing and difficult to cook meat and I think this change makes that worse. Confusing/frustrating new players who attempt to cook doesn't seem like the best idea to me.

It is possible there is a technical or logical explanation as to why it's being done in this order and if so that's fine. Cooking isn't necessary so I can just ignore it for now. ;)

There was no offense.
It's just the right order.
They could also start with Metabolism-Rework but to accomplish this they also need to Rework the Food wich has to be cooked somehow, so you start with the Fire. There will be also a Grill and many many new Food Items to cook. Many of them are already done and slumbering in the loot table waiting to see the bright Daylight that the Patchnotes will spend them =)

I think I put it on the tracker already if not I'll put it on after I finish work
