Apart from the animals there are fields (potatoes, corn, cabbages etc) and veg patches (cucumbers, carrots etc) and orchard trees (apples, pears, cherrys) and vines with grapes, bushes with rose hips and olives, mushrooms in the forest, eggs in the chicken coops, there is so much food in the game that actually it's more about making sure you eat the right things.
Also regarding your bullet problem, it's normally easier just to craft what ever bullets you need, don't search for bullets search instead for toolkits and lead (or car battery), they are the two most difficult things to find for bullet crafting, and then just make what ever you need.
PS make sure every character is at least medium in rifles and handguns at character creation otherwise you can't make all bullets.
I agree with most of what you've said. Except the crafting. I always find gunpowder to be the hardest thing to find. Also, I don't think you need rifles or handguns skilled up, or if you do it only needs to be basic. You do need medium survival though.
@OP Sounds like you've just had bad luck with ammo. 9mm is one of the most common types to find. It pretty much goes 22>shotty>9mm in my experience. Churches and police stations (plus military locations) are the best places to look for 9mm ammo. Otherwise I'd focus on crafting whatever ammo you need. What I like to do is pick up a toolkit or two and a lead plate or two plus all the gunpowder I can find and then just carry 5 metal until I find whatever I'm missing (usually the gunpowder). The lead and metal weigh a lot so I don't like to carry a bunch of it around. Same with the toolkits. I'll just carry one large kit or a pair of small kits max. I often find myself leaving metal/lead/toolkits where I found them because of inventory constraints/weight. Put a few dozen hours into the game and you'll figure out most of the tricks you need to make everything easier.
Other dude is right about the puppets. They're silly easy unless you back yourself into a corner with 3-4 of them. The easiest strat is to jump through a window since they can't climb or open doors. Then you can just stand on the other side of the window and throw crap at them. Knives are usually a good choice for this or you can just pop them in the face with your 9mm. Just remember to go for the head. If you do body shots it takes forever to kill them.
Air drops spawn about every 45-60 minutes (on singleplayer/official MP servers) and drop from the sky anywhere between two and ten minutes after the notification pops up. (It tells you the time to drop.) Some have puppets (zombies if you weren't aware are called 'puppets' in scum due to the lore) in addition to normal loot, and they come in varying types, afaik the types are (this is the ones I have seen) food, clothes, guns, tools/crafting gear. The loot in them is always high grade, however there can either be a little or a lot.
Keep it simple, don’t put too much energy into things you can’t afford to lose(emotionally/psychologically, time and energy).
My goal is to stay as easy-breezy as I can be. My biggest death penalty would be jogging back to my shelter.
Only after I’ve found people/community to grow and build with would I become concerned about bases...but then again, I’d be wanting to build a community, not a fortification.
