Am i doing something wrong
It seems like how much i loot i never find anything that i can use, combat sucks as the zombies are way over powered. Never any food and if you manage to kill something you cant cook it cause you never find break fluid. Good game just needs to be a little more in the way of supplies, i carried around a 9mm for hours and found every bullet but 9mm i mean come on man!!

Your doing something waaaay wrong. The puppets can be killed with simple stone knife, tho even a basic wooden spear is better. You can craft everything you need to get started right in your spawn area.. food should never be an issue here, as you can eat all kinds of stuff from farms, or simply picking them in the wilds.. rosehips, olives.. lots. Eggs abound near chicken coops, and water is plentiful. You dont need break fluid at all for a fire to cook. Use your crafting tiny < > on the items to needed to cycle any optional things. Not all things are even required, they just help make it better. You can tell by the indicator on the bottom left of the crafting needs part. Cooking is as easy as making a basic fire and putting a skewer on it, or near it. No pots or mess needed for simple meat. 90% of everything can be eaten raw anyway with no problem.. avoid raw meats tho'. :P

Guns are also overated as loot right off. Melee weapons are fine, and the bow is better early in, minus the PvP peeps who have a good weapon and distance or more skill than you.. a new character can die pretty much without fear.. as you only lose your Fame, not what you have achieved skill wise. So death hurts.. but it does not wipe your character back to noob

As the poster above said you need absolutely nothing to cook an animal except what you can craft in the wild. Can make an axe to chop a tree, can make tinder with bark, can make a fire drill to light the fire, can make skewers (not that you need to can just place the steaks on the ground).

Apart from the animals there are fields (potatoes, corn, cabbages etc) and veg patches (cucumbers, carrots etc) and orchard trees (apples, pears, cherrys) and vines with grapes, bushes with rose hips and olives, mushrooms in the forest, eggs in the chicken coops, there is so much food in the game that actually it's more about making sure you eat the right things.

Also regarding your bullet problem, it's normally easier just to craft what ever bullets you need, don't search for bullets search instead for toolkits and lead (or car battery), they are the two most difficult things to find for bullet crafting, and then just make what ever you need.

PS make sure every character is at least medium in rifles and handguns at character creation otherwise you can't make all bullets.

I agree with most of what you've said. Except the crafting. I always find gunpowder to be the hardest thing to find. Also, I don't think you need rifles or handguns skilled up, or if you do it only needs to be basic. You do need medium survival though.

@OP Sounds like you've just had bad luck with ammo. 9mm is one of the most common types to find. It pretty much goes 22>shotty>9mm in my experience. Churches and police stations (plus military locations) are the best places to look for 9mm ammo. Otherwise I'd focus on crafting whatever ammo you need. What I like to do is pick up a toolkit or two and a lead plate or two plus all the gunpowder I can find and then just carry 5 metal until I find whatever I'm missing (usually the gunpowder). The lead and metal weigh a lot so I don't like to carry a bunch of it around. Same with the toolkits. I'll just carry one large kit or a pair of small kits max. I often find myself leaving metal/lead/toolkits where I found them because of inventory constraints/weight. Put a few dozen hours into the game and you'll figure out most of the tricks you need to make everything easier.

Other dude is right about the puppets. They're silly easy unless you back yourself into a corner with 3-4 of them. The easiest strat is to jump through a window since they can't climb or open doors. Then you can just stand on the other side of the window and throw crap at them. Knives are usually a good choice for this or you can just pop them in the face with your 9mm. Just remember to go for the head. If you do body shots it takes forever to kill them.

try a private server that has higher loot... regular game is about survival so yeah things are going to be hard to find.. like i said you need a sever that has 1.5 higher loot or more.. i play on one that has also only PVE maybe you should try one too to learn the game

I would say try SP first, to get the feel of how it works. You can learn all you need to know about living, crafting, fighting vs puppets.. then move into the MMO. That way your not bouncing around trying to not die to players, plus the environment while feeling lost like last years easter egg. I spent a good day or so in SP just seeing how things basically work.

yea it would be nice to know how to do a lot of things, just figuring out how to care up the bodies small enough to eat was a pain but so easy once i stumbled upon it, and to give this cool game some credit, still being developed, love it just got to get some things down

how does it work with the air drops, do they happen after a certain time, the last one i got, i noticed the icon on the map and waited, but right before that a drone came by and did its thing, then i open it and zombies bust out, i have got two before that and there were no zombies, just wanted to see if anyone knows about these, got some really good military gear from them

Theres a timer on the air drops. Sometimes they have pupps in them. The stuff they have in them is random.

Air drops spawn about every 45-60 minutes (on singleplayer/official MP servers) and drop from the sky anywhere between two and ten minutes after the notification pops up. (It tells you the time to drop.) Some have puppets (zombies if you weren't aware are called 'puppets' in scum due to the lore) in addition to normal loot, and they come in varying types, afaik the types are (this is the ones I have seen) food, clothes, guns, tools/crafting gear. The loot in them is always high grade, however there can either be a little or a lot.

Isn't it also true that these drops self destruct after a certain period?

Bases? Bases don’t guarantee you anything do they? You stuff isn’t truly secure, you can’t defend it alone 24hrs a day. It only encourages you to spend more time and energy building a false sense of security so you can feel better about collecting and hoarding more stuff that you really can’t protect.

Keep it simple, don’t put too much energy into things you can’t afford to lose(emotionally/psychologically, time and energy).

My goal is to stay as easy-breezy as I can be. My biggest death penalty would be jogging back to my shelter.

Only after I’ve found people/community to grow and build with would I become concerned about bases...but then again, I’d be wanting to build a community, not a fortification.
