”Connection Timed Out” (solution)

Hello!
We had some people with this issue on our SKRA servers.
This was sorted out by a player “d4n1ch” after struggling for days to understand what the problem was.
He tried everything. Lastly he solved it by connecting through a VPN.

He wrote:
VPN will work for Connection timed out message which is caused by your PC not being able to download character db and sync with server because ISP blocking p2p traffic.

So there you MIGHT have a temporary solution to your problem. Hope the devs got their hands on a fix soon.

If your ISP is blocking P2P traffic, you need a new ISP! That is absolutely ridiculous.

We had 3 people in our community, they solved it by VPN when they had this issue..

The solution does work in 90% of "Connection timed out" cases.
ONLY if the reason you are receiving this message is failed initial sync:

LogSCUM: [InitialSync] Initial Sync failed!!!

Which means your PC failed to fetch file from server.
You should see in the logs something like:

LogSCUM: [InitialSync] Initial Sync came back at size of 2982522
LogSCUM: [InitialSync] Uncompressed received data. Took  5.39903ms.

Logs are @:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SCUM\Saved\Logs\

VPN is the fastest solution. Also you could change ISP(Internet Service Provider) or ask them not to block p2p traffic to g-portal subnets.

I've used two free trials to be sure. It works with VPN and doesn't without so i've bought a subscription. But DEV's should change the way client fetches files to sync with server.
