Where is the player base?

It says on SteamCharts that there are 3000 people playing but if I load up the server browser I only see 3 or 4 near full or full servers the rest are in the 20s-30s down to 0. At best it's about 600 players so where the hell are the other 2400?

There's 1800ish servers between official and private, so average pop per server is roughly 2....imo, consolidation would be a big benefit but I've no idea how it would work

If there are 2000 people playing Scum in single player, fair play to them. Seeing something in it that I can't

Likely, the Steam client only recognizes a game as "running" so in my opinion it doesn't matter if people are playing MP, SP or just idling in main menu.
This is probably one of the reasons, some devs split their multiplayer part into another library entry.

YOu checked these numbers at 5 o clock in the morning here in europe

Besides that the game offers a singleplayer mode.
Its not abnormal that in games like scum 80% of the people play alone.

So, guys. To clear this out I've just added all players that were displayed in the server browsers:
Online (according to server browser): 1.799 players
In game (according to steamcharts.com): 2.433 players

I don't know where you got that 600 players from but I think it's just bad maths. Alone the servers with only one player were, I think, five pages in the server browser resulting in 145 players.
