Better sniper: SVD or M82A1?
Which is better, and why? Personally... I would think that the M82 being semiautomatic, and a .50cal would make it king... but people keep telling me that the SVD is the king - but they have not told me "why" it is the king?!?

Because you have so many bullets for SVD you cannot use them all, where as .50BMG dont come as easily and cannot be crafted. M82A1 packs bigger pow but if you have no bullets, that M82 is as good as a baseball bat

Do you know why so many different rifles exist ?
(even inside a Country/army)
because there is no "Best"

You need to consider
* What you want to kill/destroy (armored?)
* Weight of weapon + Ammo
* Noise
* Availability of Weapon, Weaponparts, Ammo
* Size of the Weapon
*....

The M82 can be a nice Sniper for a ambush. But thats it in my opinion.
In (all?) most other situaations i would even prefer a K98

With the latest update I consider the M1 a strong contender, with the clip bug being the only major drawback, especially considering that M1 and SVD clips seems to drop at a 10:1 rate. M82 slows me down way too much, and ammo is pretty rare.

Otherwise I will carry a Kar or Mosin until I have at least two or three clips on hand for an SVD, provided I find one, by which time I'll usually have enough M1 rifles and clips to equip a (small) army.

Same, K98 needs no magazine, can have a scope easy with craft rail, good accuracy, I even have a silencer for it from empty bottles

I would have guessed Money, but yours is good too =)

@OP: M82 is perfect for one Shot Kills but it get's dramatically worse with every Shot you Fire because Targets tend to move a lot more when they hear an m82. The same goes for SVD of course but the Ammo of SVD is not quite as expensive. Also SVD is a very good Choice for stress situations in close Range. When someone is in front of you, already firing, you can spray 10 Rounds at him and your Chance to kill him is pretty good.

For Event the AK is King but i also had often these "Hipfire Situations" where you just want to empty as fast and as many Rounds as possible. This works much better with Druganov. Also you don't loose as much Stamina.

Still, m82 is the best because fun =)

The dragunov was my favorite gun as a kid. I always found beauty in it's design.

I love the one in SCUM, it shoots and feels great. Can't really hang with the .50 cal BMG though.

100% depends on what type of sniping you're doing.

Under 500m, the SVD wins hands down. More portable, just as deadly, easier to find ammo

Over 500m, the argument starts to sway to the M82 because even center mass shots with the SVD can be non-deadly.

If you're trying to snipe from more than 700m or so, the SVD isn't even in the conversation anymore.

As N0W3P said, M82A1 is really not suited for medium to small distance fighting, it's a camping gun for patient players ... carrying it around also drains your stamina real fast. Over 500m it's perfect.

By default the M82 is zero'd to 100m... seems that can be adjusted with the controls... My character is a camo/stealth type (high dex and int, moderate con, low str), and I am VERY patient... I'm definitely the camper type who will literally sit in one spot on top of a hill, lying prone for hours, to get a single kill,... so it seems like the M82 is perfect for me

Kar98 with M82 scope. Excellent bullet velocity, low weight. good punch. SVD was slightly better when Kar98 only had x4 scope, now that you can mount any scope Kar is absolutely awesome.

Right tool for the right job, simple as that. The guns function pretty close to their real-world counterparts so that's good :D

If you, or anyone for that matter, can get that scope to pull a range, let me know.

The ACOGs work just fine when I hold my breath, but then I had the m82 scope on an AK-47 while I was scouting out an area and couldn't get it to read.

Change the zeroing distance of a Scope by
Aim through the scope
Press (i mean it was ?) Left Shift (or control not 100% sure)
Use the mousewheel

Unless you're the type of player who can sit in cover for hours on end the m82 is useless imo just too heavy and as said above it has no practical use at shorter range. It does look cool though :)
