The only time I actually managed to get the energy meter to start increasing was when I ate a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of corn! lol........but it didn't last long
Yeah I kinda know how to search to be fair but things like mushrooms don't keep the I am Starving meter down for very long. The area I'm currently in literally has none of that or any farms! I just think the food situation is far too unbalanced unless my character has an issue I'm not aware of. Maybe I'll try a restart.
While some bunkers have nice amounts of canned food I personally wouldn't bother to look for food in buildings. The ratio of "calories per building" is ridiculously low.
Also, keep in mind that jogging and running burn tons of calories, especially when you are carrying a heavy inventory around.
You would probably want to rest for some time or walk slowly in order to give some of the calories the chance not to be burned right away.
The whole system (while being only partly implemented) works actually quite good compared to real life.
You wouldn't go for a 2km jog with a 30kg backpack after eating a bunch of seeds or a pound of steak neither, would you?
I think the problem is, that people are used have waaaaay more simple metabolism mechanics from, like, any other game so it might take some time to understand and work it out.
Took me some time too but now I think the system is great and will become even better when the rework is introduced. Though, it will probably trouble players when they will have to actively watch all their vitamins and such as this is something that you normally don't do in real life.
My guy is always quite hungry and thirsty. I need to always be thinking ahead about hunting and water sources. It definitely adds immersion to the game.
Many times I've been just on the edge of starvation when all of a sudden an animal appears. Ahhh, saved again.
Scum rocks
Thanks for your post. I am on a coastal trip so that probably hasn't helped. I think I might have found the issue though. My calorie usage stat is 10,617!! lol That would probably explain it. Any idea why it might be that high?
Also, when you're around the coastal areas olives might be a good snack. Collect 20 of them, find yourself a nice picknick spot and eat 'em.
Also, craft a spear and go bird hunting. A single crow will likely feed you for half a day.
Yeah I'm constantly jogging with gear that weighs a ton for sure, I assumed that's what everyone was doing! lol
Even when I rest I can't seem to get the calorie usage to come down much and it's rising all the time.
Think I'm gonna have to restart before my characters stomach explodes! Thanks for all the replies though guys I appreciate it.
Actually some of these values sum up and you're still burning calories only by existing. I would stick to the "calory balance" value since it's the most important one.
When you planning to go for a longer hike I would suggest to "ramp up" several thousands of "positive" calories (~4k to 5k).
If you have a base you can spend some time crafting or sorting your stuff or something. As you won't have to walk large distances in your base, walking speed won't hurt much and helps you gaining those backup calories.
Very welcome. I'm sure there are much more players who have spent lots of time figuring out diet plans that are willing to help.
You will probably not have to make a new character but getting back to normal values might take some time (water / sodium, anyone?).
My sodium is on red 217%. From my limited biology knowledge that's salt isn't it? Too little?
Plus my fibre level is green 717%! Think my dietary levels are well and truly ♥♥♥♥♥♥!! lol
I don't have a base and haven't done that much crafting so I guess that's probably where a lot has gone wrong.
There are actually some values that seem to be impossible to reduce at the moment (like fibre) while others simply don't work too correct (like sodium).
For example, in real life you would try to have a healthy balance between sodium and potassium as it regulates the amount of water that is stored in your body.
For now, I would try to train to keep your sodium around 100% and lower. Unfortunately you will most likely have to drink lots of water to be able to reduce your sodium be peeing. But, this will now increase your water levels since potassium doesn't seem to work at the moment. You would now have to reduce your water levels by eating only dry foods (like cornflakes and sunflower seeds) while trying to avoid getting higher sodium levels.
Long story short: don't bother with all of these values too much for now but probably train what food to eat for what purpose.
Maybe you wanna have a look: https://scum.gamepedia.com/Category:Foods_by_nutrition (probably slightly outdated / incomplete).
Edit: don't worry about a base. Hunting mushrooms is also a good situation to walk slowly. Or just tab out of the game and do something else while waiting for those calories to stack.
Potatoes are excellent sources of calories. So is anything carb-based (bag of flour, uncle pongs rice, pasta). Also, those yellow mushrooms that look kinda like dead leaves are full of Vit D.
If you go to the Community Guides section in Steam, you can find the "Scumtrition" guide that has a PILE of good info on food values.
But Flitz is right.... coastal areas seem to have less food in my experience.
