Devs - G-Portal
Hi Devs. I know you are working on performance issue right now, but I need to ask about how related these issues are to g-portal's hosting? We've got a 64 slot server and they only have 16GB devoted to it. That's idiotic. So, how much of this is the coding and how much is related to the hosting service not meeting its obligations to you and to us, the players. And, if it is partly related to the hosting service, is it time to open this up to other servers? Please let us know.

They won't release that information. They are most likely bound by contract not to. Thread closed in 3, 2,...

Fair enough. But, as a player and investor in this game, these questions are important. So I will restate and ask that the DEVs do their best to answer. The problem is this: the resources allocated by G-Portal may be totally insufficient for the game. They can let us know those facts, or have G-Portal tell us. But, looking at what's happening here and on Reddit, something needs to change. I guess the thread can be locked. But that intervention may be iaterogenic.

Hi! Its really hard to answer your questions in this stage of game. Speaking of G-portal deal - its commercial secret.

Well yeah. But why should we lock such threads? :)
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Heard that the servers have 16gig and that they service 8 game platforms each, that sound right?

Also, did you mean GPU? Pretty odd to be server bound GPU, no?

It's 16 GB per process. Server has much more RAM and Cores.

The physical machines are PROBABLY 16 core (32 thread) CPUs with 128GB (or more) of RAM. This type of configuration is common with multi-player game hosts.

As for server issues, set your server to restart more frequently. The game does have some memory leaks and will noticeably slow down both client side and server side after several hours of game play. The private server I play on does restarts every 6 hours versus every 12 hours like the official servers. I recommend everyone take the opportunity on server restart to close out and restart the game as well; when ever possible.

Yep, private set to 6 I play on too.

Dumb move to let only one company host servers

No. Not for development.

Edit: If you look closely, it's actually two companies.

I messaged Gportal about the 16 Gig Ram thing when i was renting a private sever from )(February to August) and below is my message to them and their response...

Hi Im renting a 20 slot server haven't set my Scum server setting high but recently been experiencing a lot of server lag and severe downgrade in performance on my Scum server. this is recent thing and didn't experience this for the 1st month (or so) of rental but recently it's gotten real bad.

ive currently got the server setting's set to as follows...

100 Puppets

100 Animals

50 Mechs

I have tried reducing these settings back to default values but still exoeriance the same problems still persist

My Server "Game Server Load" stats are as follows

CPU 1.76%

Ram 5.71 / 8 GB

i have 100Mb Fibe Internet get a server ping of 28

My Pc is a Dell 8930 with a

Core 17-8700 CPU @3.20GHz 3.19GHz

Ram 16 GB (15.8 Ram Is usable/free)

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB

I'm running windows 10 64Bit

I regularly reset my server (daily) and have tried reinstalling the server but still experience a lot of lag and stutter which makes the game barely playable (regularly) and feel that this may well be due to the server Low 8Gb Server Ram.

Scum has had a series of updates recently and i don't think 8Gb server Ram is enough to cope with this and think due to the low 8Gb Ram this may well be effecting the servers performence since the CPU is so low yet server Ram usage is so high.

is there any way to raise the server ram? or any other way to repair my server without wiping everything? as reinstalling the server and restarting it dose not help fix any of the server lag issues.

Can you help or advise me if there is anything i can do Please?

Any help and advice would be greatly apprechiated

Thank's in Advance

Good day,

the server takes as much RAM as it needs, there is no RAM limit. In the last update it was recommended to wipen the server, as otherwise the new update may cause problems.

I had done it all that was suggested I had been up renting a private server because of this idk why performance was/is so bad yet other folk have No problems

i still get freezing and frame drops to 1 FPS (specially when driving) scanned all my hardware ran memory test, Pc optimizations, etc almost everything and still cannot get Scum to run decently enough to play

the only 3 things iv not done is

1. reinstall windows 10

2. bought more ram

3. bought a new graphics card

all of which are costly solution for a problem that they might not even fix

I can run Far cry 5 and Fallout 76 (which i reckon are system heavy games) but cant run Scum

I'm outta ideas so sitting on the sidelines testing Scum after every update/hotfix to see if it's improve

Scum used to run Np but after an update a few months ago it had a lot of issues

if anyone's got any ideas i'm open to checking cos im at a total loss now :(

Nice one Bunny i wish there was a quick fix solution but unfortunately there's not patience is the key until then

with a game as complex as Scum i understand it's not an easy job to keep the intricate balance but once you guys n Gals do eventually sort that then Scum is gonna blaze! :steamhappy:

thats not server side ,servers could affect fps +- 10% of the engine max performance ,but 1 fps mean your gpu possibly is reaching the VRAM limit and clean the buffer to make room for more textures.

i reported that and many other issues like 3 months ago but grow bored of no one giving a ♥♥♥♥.

reported the power limit ,the building that make cities run at 2 fps in each city ,the vram issue and i tested it in 2 different setups both gpu and cpu.

the 1 fps thing you ask is VRAM limit exceeded or the power bug and memory leak problem. none of them can be fixed by normal users , so enjoy :)

pd: to test it simply use gpuz and watch the video ram ussage reach the limit in any card from 2gb vram to 24gb vram. yeah i saw a ♥♥♥♥♥ RTX titan reaching max VRAM ussage with scum xD no matter low or epic settings ,witch is quite disturbing in UE4
