Why so many AK variants?

So far we got 4 AK variations (gun nerds hold your horses!). But what is the purpose? The AKM and AK47 are virtually the same rifle. But why don´t we get more rifles? Is it because the devs want to make use of the regular AK shells? Do they want to avoid the assault rifles flooding the game since they want to focus the player more on survival weapons like spears and bows? But if so wouldn´t be one AK variant be enough? I don´t get it.

They need to allow us to stash the ak47 in a back pack, due to folding stock

Akm should be heavier than ak47 due to stock and milled receiver, supposedly milled receiver makes for better accuracy as well

A short barrel ak47 is needed also with folding stock, less damage since shorter barrel = less bullet velocity

The ak 15 should be the only ak to accept factory made suppressor since the barrel tip is threaded and should be able to attach sights without the rail since rails are built into the weapon

Probably because the island is in eastern Europe where the AK's are abundant.

The AK-47 and AKM are currently the most used assault rifles in the world.

I think weapon variety is always good. One of the things I liked about Arma 2 DayZ was the weapon variety, even if many of them were similar, used the same magazines, alike in handling and so on.

Not to sound harsh, but I think its more for candy throwing to buy time for actual ai/quest/mission bs content etc.. or at least in part it seems... cool guns, shorts, tights.....? etc can come anytime..
